Edit: after one more trying I like it lol. I get something from my childhood from it, smells very nostalgic. My above-mentioned opinion stays the same but I decided to leave it in my collection.

I have been using it only on weekends when I go out. Whenever I have it on me I feel great. I went on a few dates with this perfume and got compliments from my dates (in their early 30s) saying how good I smell.On me, Fantasia Mermaid is a soapy, sweet, yet light and easy to wear citrus combined with a syrupy honey and vanilla smell. It does pull “tropical” on me, and I think that’s because it resembles a tasty alcoholic beverage one might drink while on vacation. However, I’m not yet sure if the smell truly reminds me of a mermaid. On me, it was sparkling citrus & berry which later became sweet woody skin scent. Even though it was not a scent I'd wear often, I really liked it.(and yes, it's weak) As a lover of mermaids, I’ve been trying to find the perfect “mermaid” perfume for a while now. Needless to say I had to try this! I don't get any of the other notes at all- it smells generic, like bubble bath, and I neither love it nor hate it.

This perfume makes me so happy. The bottle is gorgeous. It's a beautiful, bright scent that is a sweet, honeyed juicy orangey grapefruit with a hint of softness. There is something so very tropical about this perfume; it could be because this is one of the two perfumes I brought with me on my last vacation there, but it reminds me of Hawaiian beaches. This perfume smells like the sun, the tropical beach, and the frozen fruit delights used to stave off the heat. It transports me to the Lawson in Waikiki, watching the sunset with milk shaved ice in hand.

As a person who loves unicorns, my eye was immediately drawn to the amazing bottle- only to soon be mesmerized by the opening notes. The sweet yet fruity scent drew a smile to my face. Soon enough, I put some on my wrists. The spray nozzle is very good for it evenly dispersed the scent. I walked around town for a few hours and then went home. I could still smell the scent. It changed over time, to only get better! Earthy, comforting. Then, I pictured myself on a very sunny summers day, in the English countryside somewhere, riding a lovely grey pony. And we brush past a huge raspberry bush. Raspberry bush. Not the actual berry, but a bush. It's so real, I kept looking around for that bush.

Yesterday, I was in the mood for this, I sprayed it on my wrist. The opening was the same as the time I bought it. I've smelled this before, not sure where. The comparisons to the Light Blue range are so-so, mermaid hasn't got the uniqueness of light blue, nor lemony wood etc. I'd say it's different to those. Upon initial spray I am not sure yet if this is for me, but I’m going to give it time because that’s how I felt about 20,000 Flowers Under the Sea as well. While that one is quite flowery-sweet and salty, this is very green, rosy, aquatic, and quite “cold” feeling, if that makes sense. Unlike anything I have in my collection, and honestly, this is the most “mermaid” perfume I’ve ever smelled. It seriously makes me think of the most gorgeous (but deadly) siren luring sailors to their deaths. It’s not a dark fragrance by any means, but there’s a sense of mystery to it, and I think that’s where it makes me think of a more sinister mermaid rather than a cutesy Disney one. It's a very gentle, petal-soft scent, but unfortunately doesn't have much staying power even for an eau de toilette. That said, this is a magic spell in a bottle for me. It evokes visions of an elusive unicorn wandering quietly through an enchanted forest. It is sweet and feminine, but I would not describe it as saccharine or excessively girly; it has a mysterious depth to it that adds a very slight darker edge. Upd.: Cooler autumn weather makes this scent so much more pleasant. No more heavy astringent undertone that hot weather brings out in it. Plus, it lasts very long on skin and a few days on clothes. I was smelling a couple of Anna Sui perfume in the store and this is the only one I liked. I should be clear that this is not a complicated scent. It's fairly linear, although the very end-stage drydown has a just a touch more woodsy-ness than the majority of the scent's life-on-skin. However -- the scent itself is less commercial/overly chemical fruity floral (what I hate and what I was expecting) and more a simple, lovely sugared fruit. The pomelo/grapefuit note and raspberry note combine on my skin to something very close to watermelon. In fact, it's not a hundred miles away from D&G L'Imperatrice, as they both combine that opening fruity pow! -- alongside pink pepper for a bit of an edge. And they both have some subtle soft woods at the base (for Fantasia it's cypress/cedar and for L'Imperatrice it's sandalwood, but the overall impression is similar). And for both, it's the watermelon (or in this case pomelo/raspberry that is redolent of watermelon) that is front and center. To me this is a woman's perfume, but because of the citrus woodsy notes it's not too sugary. I don't think it's masculine, although I wouldn't mind smelling this on a guy, I imagine it would work well for some men. The kind my father would spray everyday and it would stink up the place more than anything he could have produced. So I guess it is nostalgic in a way, but I truly despise it.The longevity on this beauty is a BEAST btw. Has lasted all day 12+ hrs for me multiple times through sweat and sunscreen, I can still smell it on shirts after they've been through the wash (no dryer)!!
