Minirig 3 - Portable Bluetooth Speaker - Made in the UK

For instance, it’s nice to know that you can link multiple speakers to the same system and create a stereo surround sound effect. I don't tend to cover Bluetooth speakers here at Audiophile On, but companies send a lot to our offices. By that, I mean a lot of very average or outright crappy Bluetooth speakers. I won't bother covering them most of the time as nothing about them really stands out. When we decide to write about one, it means that we think highly enough for us to recommend it to our readers. The app does have the occasional bug to worry about, and Bluetooth isn’t perfect, but there are a lot of great bonuses that help to make up for this. It’s nice to be able to experiment with EQ components and other features within the app. If you’re going to have your device going flat out at all times, then you might struggle to get more than 10 hours out of your system.T he Edifier R1700BT still sets the bar for all-out sound quality in its form factor but to have something to take with you I highly rate the mini. Conclusion - The best ultraportable Bluetooth speaker to date Hooking together 2 Minirigs and the subunit makes a stand-alone 2.1 sound system that remains portable enough to take with you to parties and camping trips. It is an incredibly versatile, well-thought-out system and one that we think has been grossly overlooked by the audio community thus far. The Mini is essentially a smaller version of the Minirigs 2, and they have kept almost all the good features from the bigger model and refined a couple of others. The size is petite when you consider the sound it puts out. It’s half the size of a can of coke and has excellent battery life. Why am I so excited about the Minirig Mini?

Today, this device is much more powerful than the previous MiniRig, with a custom 70 mm driver that really delivers sensational power. There’s also the added bonus of the wireless linking function, so you can run multiple MiniRig speakers at the same time. That said, an individual Minirig, used on its own, is a mono speaker. This is as opposed to a stereo unit that other small portable units aspire to be. This is important because, by making a single unit mono only, Minirigs can fit a larger 3-inch speaker into this device. Other companies try to cram multiple speakers of inferior quality into their units. Here, the 3-inch diaphragm can move more air and produce a way better sound and a much fuller and deeper bass response. Aside from the points mentioned so far, there are a handful of additional features that might make the MiniRig 3 more appealing to some professionals. The low beats are balanced well against the rest of the frequency range, though; playing Radiohead’s The National Anthem, the squeals and parping brass ensemble that takes control in the middle of the song are matched judiciously against the low-pitched bass guitar and Thom Yorke’s ghostly vocals. If you need a good level of medium high volume, this will significantly reduce the battery performance. In this MiniRig 3 portable review, we’re looking at one of the most compact Bluetooth speakers that the brand has to offer. However, you can use a wiring option instead if you prefer more stability. The wiring connections mean that you can chain as many speakers as you like, without having to rely on Bluetooth. Yes, the Wonderboom is bigger than the Minirig Mini - it's about twice the size, in fact - but it is still very small in its own right and is certainly very portable. In short, we think that someone eyeing-up the Minirig Mini could and should also consider the Wonderboom, and the latter finds a sweeter spot between size and sound quality. On a normal volume, you can expect a good sound base response down to around 80hz, thanks to the powerful main drivers. There’s dynamic equalization included within these devices to ensure that the sound remains as crisp as possible. The combination of it being able to get so loud and the quantity of bass from such a small unit impressed me most. I thought some of the other speakers that I own from this price category are excellent, and any issues they did have could be forgiven because of that eternal struggle of balancing sound, price, and size. I didn't expect it to be as markedly different from what I had heard before, but it was. The Minirigs is not just a little better; it is a lot better.
