About this deal

Another heartwarming odyssey, this time on one of the wildest walks in Britain… Raynor’s is a voice of empathy and integrity” - Guardian The Salt Path” is a non-fiction book that was released in 2018. The true story about a couple that lost everything and embarked on this transformative journey walking along the South West Coast Path in England. Coronation Street couple Sally Carman and Joe Duttine put on a cosy display as they attend their co-star Chris Gascoyne's leaving party Moth is in a ‘really good place’ at the moment, Winn says, which I had hoped to see for myself. But she has rerouted our interview from their home to the nursery, and Moth has postponed the photo shoot. I can’t help but wonder whether the healing magic of the latest walk, which they finished last autumn, has worn off. The Wild Silence” is the tale of hope triumphing over despair, of lifelong love prevailing over everything. It’s a luminous account of the human spirit’s connection to nature, and just how vital it is for everybody.

Remarkably it has helped in the past, alleviating his condition, mitigating symptoms. However, Moth’s condition is worse than it has ever been. He is slowly losing his battle, his muscles growing weaker with each day. Eventually he will lose his speech, memory, and not be able to breath. The Wild Silence did not hold the same novelty value but I enjoyed her exploration of mindset v nature. At the time I wrote "Raynor Winn's writing raises this book from memoir to something painfully visceral. She captures emotions and landscape so deftly that you are carried along with joy despite this not always joyous narrative which inspires deep hope. Inspiration from the natural world provides catharsis and inner strength." But we’re getting ahead of ourselves. The journey begins almost a decade earlier. Many readers will be familiar with Raynor’s spellbinding debut, The Salt Path, which documented her and Moth’s experiences along a 630-mile stretch of windswept and sea-lashed coastline. It’s more like a peat path this time round. Starting in the far north-west of Scotland on an improvised version of the Cape Wrath Trail, they are spurred by a wise hiker’s counsel to “put yourself in the way of hope” in search of what another sage in a cagoule dubs “trail magic”. When they reach Fort William, an impulse lures them onto the West Highland Way. And so it goes on, and on, with one cycling interlude – “a tsunami of miles”, as Winn styles it – via the Pennine Way, the Offa’s Dyke Path and beyond.

mida ma üldse saan Raynori ja Mothi loo kohta öelda sellist, mida ma eelmiste raamatute puhul juba öelnud poleks? siin läheb ikka edasi seesama lugu, mis algas mitu aastat tagasi Mothi diagnoosi ja nende kodutuksjäämisega; kodutuse teema sai lahenduse, aga ravimatu haiguse teema mitte. täiesti ootuspäraselt halveneb Mothi tervis uuesti ja täiesti ootuspäraselt asub 60-ste abielupaar (Raynor mõni aasta alla ja Moth mõni üle) jälle matkarajale, sest see on see, mis enne on aidanud.

James Blunt shares emotional meaning behind his new song The Girl That Never Was: 'I deal with it by writing' Ligt het aan het feit dat ik die boek in (een zeer Hollandse) nogal stroeve vertaling las? Ligt het aan het feit dat dit boek voelt als een verplicht nummertje? Een zoveelste variatie op hetzelfde thema? As someone who enjoys walking I truly admire what Raynor and Moth have done. As someone who also detests midges, sore feet and heavy rain, I read most of this book feeling I was reading about some kind of personal hell. The Salt Path was shortlisted for the 2018 Wainwright Prize, [2] and the 2018 Costa Book Awards [2] in the biography category. The judges described it as "An absolutely brilliant story that needs to be told about the human capacity to endure and keep putting one foot in front of another." [8] In May 2019 The Salt Path won the inaugural RSL Christopher Bland Prize. [9] In September 2019 it was the number one bestselling book in UK independent bookstores. [10] In 2023, a film adaptation of the same name began filming with Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs in the lead roles. [11] Since travelling the South West Coastal Path, Raynor Winn has become a regular long-distance walker and writes about nature, homelessness and the health benefits of walking. She is the Sunday Times bestselling author of The Salt Path, The Wild Silence and Landlines. She won the Royal Society of Literature Christopher Bland Prize in 2019 and has been shortlisted for numerous other awards including the Costa, the Wainwright and the Stanfords Travel Writing awards. Raynor is also a prolific speaker.
