About this deal

These represent Suntory’s commitment to only use the best ingredients harvested from the best growing areas in Japan. There are two variations of Roku gin. One from Duty Free stating SELECT EDITION in a Gold band on the front The other one is available from shops and online. Massive difference between the two. The saying ‘if it’s too good to be true, it probably is’ can be applied here. If it is too cheap Roku Gin, it is probably a fake. Owning, opening and drinking this gin is a whole experience - from the aroma you get when you open the bottle and how special it feels when poring your first drink to taking your first sip - an utter delight. Really enjoyed this gin. Very refreshing and interesting to taste. Agree with another commenter on the elderflower tonic. Fevertree is great with this and would highly recommend.

Roku Japanese Gin | The House of Suntory

These four seasons include the beautiful sakura leaf and sakura flower for spring, sencha tea and gyokuro tea for summer, sansho pepper for autumn and yuzu peel for winter. Palate: Complex, multi-layered, yet harmonious flavour of various botanicals. Traditional gin taste in the base, plus characteristic Japanese botanical notes with yuzu as the top note. Smooth and silky texture. The Roku Gin bottle is designed to reflect the aesthetics of Japan, with the six natural Japanese botanicals embossed on the hexagonal bottle symbolizing Roku – which means ‘six’ in Japanese. Roku means “six” in Japanese which refers to the six local, seasonal botanicals which complement the eight traditional gin botanicals (juniper, coriander seed, angelica root & seed, cardamom, cinnamon, bitter orange, lemon peel). This gives this type of alcohol a distinctly Japanese character. Japanese botanicals are the sakura flower (cherry blossom), sakura leaf, sencha tea, gyokuro tea, sansho pepper and yuzu peel.My only real complaint is the low juniper (and even there, I feel this has more than many of the modern gins out there). If they were to make a style with a heavier juniper profile, that would almost certainly become my absolute favorite gin! Palate: A rich taste that gradually envelops the mouth with the natural sweetness and complex flavour of the rice. I made duplicate martinis, one with Beefeaters, and one with Roku. It isn't even close, really. I did drink them both simultaneously, so I'm feeling pretty good right now!

I’ve just tried this gin last night and the first drink was a standard gin and tonic and as others have mention the gin has a very sting taste. The second drink I tried it with fresh ginger. Wow wow wow amazing the best gin combo ever I have previously brought this gin for a friends birthday gift, but at the time buying something I hadn’t tasted myself was risky. She did assure me it was really lovely - I can now agree :) A very fresh twist on gin with a great clean finnish . I love this gin and will be adding this to my go to list . It's got a very vibrant taste to me. I don't have the developed palate to describe what it tastes like, but I enjoy it, and it'll be my go-to gin, especially at this price point. This is one of the loveliest gin’s I have tasted. The experience I have had with other types of gin is that it has taken a few sips to adapt to the taste - I don’t get that with this gin, it is instantly tasty.

Flavor Profile

Sakura flower, Sakura leaf, Yuzu peel, Sencha tea (green tea), Gyokuro tea (refined green tea) and Sansho pepper. Six Japanese botanicals cultivated over four seasons, the six Japanese botanicals have been carefully selected to create ROKU, Japan's authentic craft gin. Each botanical has been harvested at the peak of its season to extract the best flavour, and distilled to fully embody the blessings of nature. The harvest of the four seasons has been blended to create ROKU's balanced flavour. You can try serving Roku Gin in a gin and tonic with a ginger garnish, which accentuates the citrus notes.
