About this deal

You can see the massive difference between the height of the foam underfoot in the forefoot and the heel. The heel is very protective, while the forefoot is rather sensitive. You can also see that while there are a lot of overlays on the upper, the crease point on the forefoot is left exposed to abrasion and early tearing. Unfortunately, given the timing (summer) and location (Front Range of Colorado) of my reviewing for the Supercross, I have not encountered any mud, but an educated guess is that the Supercross would be better in mud specifically, however the XA Elevate (and X Alpine Pro) have superior wet traction, so would consider what comes after or intermittently with the muddy sections. GORE-TEX is perfect for a trail running shoe; this breathable membrane is great for keeping water out whilst allowing moisture to pass through and it's super lightweight. The Salomon Supercross 3 GTX is a versatile running shoe that can take you from the town to the trail. If you like to mix up your running, this lightweight shoe is just as at home in your local park as it is on a rugged off-road route. A dedicated trail running shoe to be certain, the Supercross finds its home on a variety of terrain and even felt pretty good on a gravel pedestrian trail. With five different color options, the Supercross will also fit nicely into the color palate of any runners wardrobe. Fit of the Supercross

Jeff: Aside from a few minor limitations, such a foothold, warm upper, no lace garage or Endofit, I find the Supercross to be an excellent addition to the Salomon line up in that it is a very fairly priced shoe with enough performance, comfort, traction, durability and versatility to satisfy a wide variety of runners and hikers who are looking for maximum value. The flexible construction is exactly the type of composition you want in trail shoes; your feet will move in directions based on the terrain you encounter. Salomon always boasts a fabulous outsole, it grips like teeth to the ground and is great on both wet and dry ground. The lugs with deep penetration offer superb grip on soft surfaces such as mud or loose dirt. You won't need to worry about your laces coming loose. The Salomon Supercross 3 GTX benefits from laces that will keep your foot stable and secure with every stride. When running on the wet and muddy ground, the shoe's deep chevron lugs dig into the ground, anchoring you in place. This gives a solid base for push-off from when taking a stride and digging into the ground when braking and changing direction. The Salomon Supercross offers a comfortable fit. The heel box is nice and snug, which is something I really look for with my boney heels. The accentuated tab at the rear entrance of the heel-box helped to make for easy on and off. At 24.3 ounces per pair of men's size 11, these are among the heaviest shoes in this review. While they don't feel overly and clunky on the trail, their competitors are successfully lowering the weights of their daily trainers, so look elsewhere if you want the lightest choice. Although the Salomon shoe provides plenty of support and grip for trail runs, they are not mountaineering boots. With foot protection classed as light, what they lose in grip and ankle stability, they make up for with a lightweight and flexible feel, allowing you to move swiftly on the run.

The insole of any shoe is important as it gives your foot that comfort that it desires while it pounds the ground. In addition, Salomon class this as a regular cushioned shoe, so although it is comfortable, it may not provide you with the extreme comfort to keep off soreness and fatigue from multi-day trips. Salamon released their first snowboard in 1997, and since then have firmly cemented their highly respected place in the snowboarding industry, just as they have done for the last 50 years with alpine skiing, nordic skiing, hiking, trail running, and everything else associated with mountain life. A robust and aggressive grip makes it easy to dig into dirt safely whilst providing all the flexibility needed for ground feel and plenty of push-ups. Trail running needs a secure shoe that isn't slippy or sloppy, and the Supercross 3 provides an incredibly personalized fit with the use of SensiFit™ technology and a snug heel fit.

The Salomon Supercross are an affordable and wide fitting shoe with the same insane traction that the Speedcross has become known for, and also feature a similar 10mm heel-toe drop. They are a comfortable trail runner designed for the everyman. The Salomon Supercross 3 GTX is an excellent choice for a lighter trail running shoe, It's got all the features that will enhance your performance and give you an exceptional run. Sam: I was surprised by the versatility and overall comfort of the Supercross. Representing a new direction for Salomon in terms of value, roomier fit, softer ride, and flexibility while retraining an aggressive outsole which doesn’t get in the way on firmer smooth terrain, the Supercross is a most versatile trail runner, hiker, travel, and even casual shoe. I will definitely be pulling them out this winter for trail runs on snow due to their flexibility and grip as well as for sloppy slushy road days. Salomon impresses yet again with a Supercross trail runner that both looks and feels great. In addition, the Supercross 3 delivers on all its promises with superior technology and materials, a fact that I'm yet to argue with on most Salomon gear. The upper is fabric and is injected with lateral bands of smooth rubber that tie into the reinforced rubber of the lacing system. These created a strong girdle of support around the foot without adding a bunch of unnecessary weight.

A very aggressive sole allows for some semi-rugged trail running but does not deter a leisurely run around an urban trail area. The shoe is lightweight for a trail runner, has a responsive feel, and boasts a comfortable fit. Runners who have struggled with Salomon’s often low volume fit now have a roomier option that except on highly technical terrain doesn’t compromise much on performance, For some it could be an excellent new option for more mellow terrain ultras in wet conditions. The padding of the sole is most aggressive in the heel and as perfectly suited for those heel strikers out there. The weave of the upper material reminded me of rip-stop fabric used in tents and other outdoor gear. It looks pretty rugged but retains a high level of breathability.
