Steve B. reports that even with the oversized 3.5A CanaKit adapter* it does not work. If you have the standard 3.0 adapter you can be practically certain it won’t power this enclosure. If you decide to replace the hard drive in your laptop with a solid-state drive, you can use a super duplex SATA/IDE to USB adapter to connect the SSD as an external USB drive, and then clone the contents of the hard drive into it.
