About this deal

The easily adjustable six-point harness straps made this seat a firm contender for one of the best child bike seats around. There are also adjustable foot straps, which make it super easy to slot little feet in place. It’s advertised for children from nine months to three years old, and it complies with the European EN14344 safety standard.

The best bike child seats are a great investment for parents and children who love to cycle, as well as for those who are just getting started. And having your child in close proximity as they learn to ride is a great way to bond with them. There are plenty of child seats available for different types of bicycles. Some are front-mounted and others fit on the rear of the bike. The majority of seats on the market also comply with the European safety standards so you can rest assured that they’re safe to use too. Some of these bike seats offer complete support, which is perfect for small children, while others are just an attachable seat and handlebars: ideal for older tots who are more aware of their surroundings. All of the seats we listed above will work for casual riding, but the Tyke Toter and the UrRider are specifically designed for only casual riding. Both seats are bulkier and include integrated handlebars for the child. On the flip side, they are easy to mount and are more affordable. The Mac Ride has a durable scooped seat for a comfortable ride Once the special spacer has been installed under your stem, the Mac Ride can be installed and removed in secondsBike seats mounted on the head-tube are perfect for babies and toddlers, from 9 months until 3 years old. If you’re looking for the cream-of-the-crop front child bike seat, the Thule RideAlong Mini is it. High-quality and durable like other Thule seats, comfort and best-fit is where the RideAlong Mini really shines. It’s very much a similar feeling with the Shotgun. Sure, our elder two children were taken all over everywhere on bikes and enjoyed many rides immensely. The process with the original Shotgun takes only a few minutes and several steps, but was just inconvenient enough that it made us less likely to want to take the MTB seat off our bike. With the Shotgun Pro, the process is so fast, there is really no inconvenience at all. The Shotgun seat fits all modern mountain bikes – including bikes with steep, sloping or tapered top tubes.

Take for example, TWT Mom Carrie and her husband Brian. Carrie is 5’10 and Brian is 6’1. Their daughter is 3.5-years-old and 42.5″ tall (and 43 pounds). For reference, Carrie has quite a long torso! We have personally tested out all three seats and can say they all perform great on the trails, but each seat has its own unique benefits. Bike seats mounted on the top-tube are a great solution for slightly older kids, from 2 or 3 years old. In this article we'll look at a range of front-mounted bike seats for your baby, toddler or preschooler. Most of these kids bike seats will seat a child up to 15 kg.

SHOTGUN PRO MTB CHILD SEAT - PRODUCT FEATURE

The unique cradling “u-shaped” saddle of the Mac Ride was a big hit with our testers as it helped to keep riders firmly on the saddle during more aggressive rides. The Mac Ride does not offer mini handlebars, but does offer optional small grips that you can mount on the inside of your grips. It is also the only mountain bike kids seat on this list that offers a height-adjustable footrest. The Do Little’s footrest is a fixed metal bar that cannot be adjusted. The “loose” design of the Do Little’s footrest is to allow the child’s foot to easily be released from the footrest in the event of a crash. Do Little’s belief is that it is better to have the child easily separated from the bike versus potentially having their leg or foot tweaked by the footrest.

How easy it is to get the Shotgun Pro on and off your bike is, in our opinion, the major reason to upgrade from the original Shotgun (if you’re tall enough and the Pro is a good fit for you.) The comfortable seat and adjustable foot straps can accommodate kids upto a maximum weight of 15 kg A low profile adaptor remains on your steerer tube so be sure you have enough steerer tube space before purchasingI can now talk with her much more easily. I can hear her singing (sometimes without end) more easily. I can judge her mood and whether or not she’s willing and able to continue or needs to find a park to have a swing at more easily. Comfort of the Shotgun front bike seat One of the first things we noticed about the Shotgun Pro was that it sits higher in relation to our bikes compared to the original Shotgun and the Mac Ride MTB seats.

Another benefit of the Shotgun is the optional mini handlebars for kids (shown in the pic above). Some kids love having their own handlebars as it gives them their own place to hang on, while also keeping their hands off your grips. The most important thing is that the bike seat is attached securely with no sign of budging. Common sense also comes into play here and, as parents, we’ll need to make judgement calls about what’s safe for our children. For example, how comfortable is your little one wearing a helmet? (No helmet, no bike ride.) So ensure your child is snug in their harness and that the bike seat itself is installed correctly and not wobbly. What safety standards should I be aware of? The length of the inside leg of the shotgun seat is 210mm, and the outside leg of the shotgun seat is 258mm in length. Its shoulder straps are soft, padded, secure, and don’t slip down. To top it off, the RideAlong Mini is the onlyseat on this list to have two shoulder strap height positions to adjust as your child grows.

On our Santa Cruz bikes with three full-sized spacers, there was plenty of clearance and absolutely no issues, as you can see above. DROPPER POSTS: Another reason to choose the Shotgun or 2.0 has to do with dropper posts. For mounting a Shotgun Pro (or Mac Ride) to the seat post, your dropper post has to have 2 cm of exposed space between the seat collar and the dropper seal. The Shotgun Pro seat is suitable for dropper posts and all common seat post sizes, including 27.2mm, 30.9mm, 31.6mm and 34.9mm. Fitting requires 14mm of available seat post space. The original Shotgun seat has helped raise thousands of mini mountain bikers around the world. With easy installation & removal, it’s the perfect mtb child seat for getting started riding with your little one.
