About this deal

The new "EX" is very different from the previous, and the feeling touching the lens is far better than before (the body is metallic, no plastic). SIGMA 85mm F1.4 DG DN | ArtEye-Detection AF. The SIGMA 85mm F1.4 DG DN | Art is compatible with the Eye-Detection AF,which is capable of hi… When I look the images that this lens produces on APSC cameras, I cannot but prefer those coming from the combo of Samsung NX1+85mm/1.4. Function available on supported cameras only. Available corrections or auto correction functionality may vary depending on the camera model. I own quite a bit of Canon-L glass. I have yet to find one that's actually very good at any of this. By the time you stop them down to where they actually work reasonably well, you've lost all the advantages of the wide aperture.

Lenses with a fast, f/1.4 aperture are often quite soft when shooting wide-open, but this Sigma retains superb sharpness and contrast. At f/2, sharpness across most of the image frame becomes spectacular, and it’s excellent at the extreme edges and corners by the time you hit f/2.8. I've appreciated this lens together with the Nikon D700, and I think it's a very good choice to spare money (in comparison with the double costly Nikkor), keeping an high quality. There is only build quality compromise (the lens mount side exposes electronics within when focused at MFD), but am not sure how many of us really thrash our equipments. Again, the absence of ‘bokeh fringing’ is excellent. The manual focus ring works with smooth precision so that you can really nail focusing in extreme close-ups. (Image credit: Future) Lab tests Lenstip and DXO have rated it the sharpest 85mm lens ever created, beating out even the legendary 85mm F1.4 Zeiss Otus, which isn't something that wetake lightly.”

Sigma 85mm f / 1,4 on the field is not inferior to Nikon 85 / 1,4G, has a beautiful soft bokeh, good design, accurate and fast AF, a beautiful rich color. Photographing a great pleasure, you do not want to remove from the camera. This is a wonderful lens! Sigma meets the performance offered by the Nikon 85mm, and in some cases, exceeds it. We noted an odd patch of softness in the center of the frame when using the Nikon lens at ƒ/1.4; the Sigma, by comparison, is quite sharp. Similarly to the Canon though, when the Nikon is stopped down to its sharpest points (f/5.6 and smaller), it's slightly sharper than the Sigma. The Nikon shows less CA, but distortion and corner shading are quite similar. You can use a 50mm lens for both portraits and outdoor scenes. It has a shallow depth of field that’s wide enough for gorgeous landscapes. The focal length works wonders when composing shots. The Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art is designed with professional and intermediate photographers in mind. The bokeh (quality of defocused areas) can be equally important as sharpness for portraiture and still life photography. This facet of performance is sublime, with a wonderfully creamy smoothness in blurred regions, and excellent quality in the transition between focused and defocused areas.

You can easily find the perfect focus without having to touch the focus mode switch. This feature is a game-changer if you are shooting in manual mode and your object is darting between lighter and darker spots. Your report very nicely showed the "performance" of both lenses. But actually it was mainly the optical performance. We can see the difference between the results if they’re arranged next to each other. I’ve left out the Sony here, but it’s pretty similar to the Sigma 85mm Art. If you’re looking for the perfect portrait lens, maybe you should look at this Sigma 85mm f/1.4 lens. It’s part of their Art series, known for its sharpness and excellent build quality. I use this lens for weddings, portraits, and taking pictures of Mr. White, the kitten.Even mounted on a 20MP Nikon D5, the results were better than a 42MP Sony A7r II with a Zeiss Basis F1.8, which is no mean feat! Due to the wide aperture, this lens is my very best friend in darker settings. It allows me to take beautiful images without introducing artificial light or noise into my shots. This helps preserve the image quality. If you buy a product through one of our referral links we will earn a commission (without costing you anything).

The high resolving power that covers the entire image from the center to the edges ensures sharpness of the area in focus, and coupled with the significant bokeh effect produced by the F-value of 1.4 brings out the users’ subject in an evocative way. In addition to five SLD (Special Low Dispersion) elements and one aspherical lens, the 85mm F1.4 DG DN | Art has incorporated the latest high refractive index glass, which works to thoroughly correct aberrations that cannot be handled by the correction functionality on the camera side. With a particular emphasis given to the correction of axial chromatic aberration, users will enjoy sharp images with no color bleeding, all the way up to the maximum aperture of F1.4.

Manuals / Brochures

With just 0.12x magnification, the Sigma 85mm ƒ/1.4 does not offer exceptional macro performance. Minimum close-focusing distance is just under three feet. Centre-sharpness is exceptional and remains fabulous even wide-open at f/1.4. Wide-aperture corner-sharpness is less impressive but that’s generally not a problem. While 85 AF-S is a bit sharper and has better corners , (but not by much) is it also 700 euro more expensive than the Sigma. it is important to manual focus on test charts etc. your eye will find the best result - which is indeed, important for the dprev image quality test. The Canon’s build quality feels excellent throughout, and handling is refined with a smooth-action manual focus ring that enables precise adjustments. The ring-type autofocus system and image stabilizer are whisper-quiet in operation, although the stabilizer makes an audible clunk when it starts up and shuts down. Performance
