Theoretically, the Solo Stove Campfire can burn for up to 30 minutes on a single filling of fuel, which is more than enough time to boil water or cook a meal. But if you don’t fill it up too much, you’ll have to refuel it pretty often. Still, it’s not a hassle at all with its handy cutout on a fire ring. Basically it means that although you’re burning wood, the Solo Stove Campfire acts a lot like a gas burner. That’s because at the final stage of combustion, it really is burning gas. It’s true that I did not follow the above advice the first time I used it, opting to tip the embers out onto the ground. However, this could be a risky move, and Solo Stove doesn’t recommend it.
There are three Solo Stove sizes. The Yukon is the largest, and it’s the one I’d recommend if you want a permanent fire pit. The medium size, called the Bonfire, only fits logs up to 16-inches long. The Ranger is the smallest size and is a good option if you need a portable fire pit. It’s just 15 pounds, 12.5 inches tall, and 15 inches wide. Since there is a bit of a learning curve to using the Solo Stoves (or any wood fire for that matter), here are a few tips. Thanks Amber! One section of the cooking ring is cut out which allows you to feed the fire with fuel while cooking. We have the Solo Stove camp stove and I’m obsessed! I’ve been dreaming of getting one of the full size ones and I’m so excited that they’re making a system so you can cook on it! I love that it burns everything down to ash so clean-up is such a breeze! Reply That rising hot air adds oxygen to the burn chamber, making the fire burn hotter and eliminating the smoke. Science! For how simple-looking this fire pit is, it can be surprising by its incredible performance. Some leaves, twigs, and pine cones can get you a smokeless fire in somewhere between one and two minutes.
However, you might encounter a pesky burnt twig that’s hard to remove from the mesh. While this can be a bit annoying, overall, the cleanup process is simple and hassle-free. You should not pour water into your Solo Stove, as it may damage the stainless steel. The only genuinely fire-safe way to put out a Solo Stove fire is to let it burn out on its own. Solo Stove fire pits are wood-burning, so it’s not recommended to put charcoal that burns much hotter than wood and thus can damage your stove. So, is Solo Stove worth your attention and money? What’s in the box?
As it turns out, Solo Stove fire pits are pretty expensive. Still, I decided it was time to spring for one. Portable camping fire pit: Recommended– These solo stoves are just fun! They are much faster and easier to light than a traditional campfire, plus they burn less wood and have less smoke to avoid. The Titan is a good size for a mini tabletop fire pit, and I expect mine will get regular use.
Although Solo Stove cautions against it, we were able to topple the bonfire with our feet and dump the embers on the ground, where we poured water over them.
What needs to be improved
So, if you’re looking for portable fire pits for car camping, the Solo Stove Bonfire 2.0 is about half the weight of a comparable Breeo. Some of that air goes to the center of the stove where it helps stoke the primary combustion area (where the solid fuel is burning). The double-wall construction prevents heat from scorching the area of ground under the Campfire, but be aware that the outer walls do get very hot during use.
