About this deal

She’s really well,’ Veronica replies warmly as Dad lets me go again. I shoot him a smile, hoping he doesn’t stray far. ‘Did you know she’s expecting?’ But Jamie hurtled into our lives at the age of thirteen and never left. He turned thirty recently and although he hasn’t lived at the farm in almost a decade, he turns up nearly every day to visit my parents. They’d be lost without him.

Okay, maybe this is my second.’ He smiles up at me with his best puppy-dog please-don’t-be-mad impression. ‘You’ve been gone ages!’The story focuses around Leah the daughter of parents who foster time after time. The main timings in the book are now and then with some in-between and a little after now. Unlike some books that jump a little this one flows well and adds to the mystery and depth of the story. These first few chapters had me hooked .. I loved this sample and now I am even more excited for the book. I need to know more about Leah, Theo and George! Paige Toon's writing is just amazing, I know without a doubt I am going to love this book and this preview has only confirmed what I already knew. A scan of the crowd confirms that my parents have retreated inside along with their friends. They never were ones to outstay their welcome where the younger generation was concerned.

Leah's family fostered children when she was growing up. George was one of the troubled foster children they took in. Leah and George formed a special friendship, along with another boy from school, Theo. The story of these children have many heartbreaking moments, and circumstances, but yet they are shown so much love too. I loved how there are people like Leah's parents that are there to help. I loved it. A beautiful story about love and family and healing broken hearts. It swept me up and wouldn’t let me go—I had tears in my eyes by the end.”—Beth O’Leary, author of The Road Trip To sum it up ... Someone I used to know is a beautiful story that I know will touch so many hearts in so many ways ... a story of found family, friendship and a whole load of love! For much of the way through Theo had me guessing much more than George. I loved them both in their own way. Theo earns my love when he takes their name not Leah taking his. While George was likeable throughout but in the now more than most. Theo had me completely guessing with the outcome of what happened with the drink driving. I felt for all the characters. When I left at five thirty this evening, it was still light, but now, at almost eight, the fields are blanketed in darkness, save for the occasional glowing window from neighbouring farmhouses – and our place, which is lit up like a giant Christmas tree. I loved this so much. This story was past/present, YA with second chance as adults.. and that is what I’m all about.
