About this deal

I found that a coat of varnish helps to fix the problem, but you have to be careful, as the varnish can reactivate the Speedpaints as well. It’s quite annoying because it’s not an issue at all with Games Workshop’s Contrast paints and limits the Speedpaints’ usefulness because the reactivation issue also means that Speedpaints aren’t really suitable for glazing techniques. A single thinned down coat might be fine, but when you glaze multiple layers of Speedpaints over another the paint will reactivate and mess up all your careful glazing work. Multiple layers of glazing with Slaughter Red thinned with Speedpaint Medium Since receiving these paints I’ve started using them as a permanent fixture in my painting toolbelt. The range is very flexible and offers a variety of colors and hues that are difficult to find in competing ranges. There are a couple that underperformed compared to other paints in the range so there’s some variance (Nuclear Sunrise and Glittering Gold stand out in my memory as colors I wish I had but the paints don’t quite behave properly) but its certainly worth exploring the range despite this for the colors that are straight magic in a bottle I wanted to try something a bit different with Speedpaints. But before we get to that, let’s go with something traditional. In addition, most advertising networks offer you a way to opt out of targeted advertising. This was a handful of different colors: Murder Scene, Slaughter Red, Carmine Dragon, Nuclear Sunrise, and Noble Skin. Probably others too, as I wasn’t following any plan in particular. I was just grabbing the paints that looked about right, and trying stuff out. And what about reactivation? I would say it’s similar to the regular Speedpaints. After 30 minutes the paint is very stable and can hardly be dissolved with water or wet paint, but Speedpaint Medium allows you to carefully remove the paint. My thoughts on metallic SpeedpaintsTo come up with the 2.0 formula, The Army Painter collaborated with some well-known painters from the YouTube community. A brilliant approach to designing products in my opinion. Goobertown Hobbies, Dana Howl, and “Watch it paint it” were asked to provide their input, and even come up with a bunch of new colours themselves. Speedpaint 2.0 contains a more stable acrylic resin which forms a stronger bond. It is promised to no longer reactivate after a curing time of about 2 hours depending on the environment. Which means there should be a time window of at least 2 hours for blending and reactivation. Or shouldn’t it? Spoiler: yes but no. And here is the sheet for The Army Painter’s Speedpaints, which I just recently updated to cover all 89 colours of the Speedpaint 2.0 range. The Army Painter recommend their Matt White Colour Primer, but for better comparison with Contrast, I used Grey Seer Spray from Games Workshop for both models, which is a light grey primer with a satin finish. The smooth satin finish allows the medium of Speedpaints and Contrast paints to spread more evenly. Nevertheless, the many flat areas of the Intercessors’ power armour will present quite a challenge for either paint. The Most Wanted Paint Set includes all the original 24 Speedpaint colours that were found in the Original Speedpaint Mega Paint Set reformulated for superior speed and performance. If you’re plugged into hobby social media at all you’ve surely heard of The Army Painter’s Speedpaint line. They released hot on the heels of Citadel’s industry-shaking Contrast line, promising to provide a similar one-coat experience. We here at Goonhammer have been using them for quite some time, and figured it was high time we shared our thoughts and favorite paints.

The first thing to understand is that the latter two paint ranges have a very different formula than Contrast or Speedpaint. They are not based on dye, but on thinned acrylic pigments. Think of Citadel Nihiliakh Oxide or regular acrylic paints thinned with a lot of Contrast Medium. Before the summer ended, I had the pleasure of winning a GT in Duluth, MN, and that was done partially due to these brand-new models I had gotten painted up. I was only able to get those done thanks to the beauty of the speed paints here. My Psychophage is painted with about four or five primary colors, starting with the Bony Matter paint. The flesh of the tentacles was done with the Goddess Glow paint, which honestly was something I was kind of gambling with and experimenting with, but I was incredibly happy with how that turned out. Speedpaints become even more affordable when you get them from our partner stores Wayland Games, Element Games, Firestorm Games, and Taschengelddieb, which offer additional discounts of 10% over RRP. I fully admit that fault lies entirely on my own dumb self. The easy fix is “don’t be an idiot”, but that hasn’t stopped me in the past. But I wanted to mention this regardless: if the Speedpaint doesn’t flow, don’t test your grid strength on it. Trust me. The Army Painter provided various Goonhammer painters with sets of Speed Paints for the purposes of this review. As you can see, there is more of everything, plus 6 brand-new pastel and 10 metallic Speedpaints. I really like all the new greys, browns, and the expanded selection of skintones. First off, you’ll notice his wings are loud and announcing his bloody pressence. At first, I thought this was going to be a bit overpowering but as I put the paint on, I enjoyed the color more and more. Maize Yellow made painting one of my most hated colors a breeze, and it was applied so evenly that I can’t imagine using something else. For the bone of the tail and his wings, you’ll notice my beloved Bony Matter paint at work again. His skin I was planning on using Khorne Red, but then I saw the Slaughter Red paint decided to give it a go. It’s dark and easy to look at, a great color for his skin. His weapons I’m still trying to decide on, but i landed on the Forest Sprite green to start the glow of his Daemonic Sword. “Mild”Norman Greeberg The NEW Speedpaint 2.0 Starter features a comprehensive collection of the hobby’s favorite one-coat painting solution reformulated to meet the demands of painters of all skill levels. However, there is one thing I don’t like about Speedpaints that no one is really talking about: Even when they’re dried, they will reactivate when you paint over them. Here are some spots I wanted to touch up with Greyseer, and even though I applied multiple coats, the Blood Red Speedpaint keeps coming through, turning the Greyseer pink. I reached out to The Army Painter and they told me it is due to the composition of the medium and most prominent with Speedpaints containing a high amount of yellow pigments. Blood Red bleeding through Greyseer paint on top In total, the Speedpaint Mega Set 2.0 features 46 colours, 3 metallics, and 1 Speedpaint Medium - a total of 50 bottles - enabling you to paint beautiful tabletop-quality miniatures in no time! Simply apply one rich coat of Speedpaint directly over a primed miniature and you are done. All colours are using tried and true high-quality heavy pigments.
