This is a Limited Edition of the masterpiece that is Johnnie Walker Blue Label. The box and label are a limited edition design. Johnnie Walker has been a household name of blended whisky for over 215 years but with such a varied and expansive history it is hard to know which is their best bottling. The 1990s saw the Johnnie Walker range expanding as the Blue Label, Gold Label, and Pure Malt joined the range in 1994, 1995, and 1996 respectively. Nose: Malt, malt, and more malt. After it settles down a bit, I get…more malt. I’m not complaining – I like malt! Other sweet notes that arrive are in the soft and rich category: vanilla, honey, maple syrup, chocolate, and a hint of fresh-baked bread. Maybe a touch of cherries – not fresh off the tree, but tart and rich after having been baked in a pie. Underneath it all is a quiet earthy texture that doesn’t quite fit, even though I usually like quiet earthy textures. Some nice grasses and flowers, perhaps, but a little too much dirt. Nonetheless, it’s a solid, B-plus nose.

INGREDIENTS: Blending Scotch Whiskies matured for at least 12 years to ensure the perfect flavour intensity. Master Blender has carefully selected casks to create a mouth-wateringly sweet malt whisky with a quietly spicy finish The final Johnnie Walker whisky in the core range to carry an age statement is the 18 Year Old blend, the oldest of the age statement whiskies. The 18 Year Old was known as the Platinum Label from 2012 until before being re-branded in 2017. In a very fitting coincidence, there are up to 18 different whiskies included in this blend. After being axed from the core range in 2012 just 6 years after its initial release, the Green Label was relaunched in 2016. The popularity of the Green Label was made apparent after a limited run of bottles were made available for its 10th anniversary and the positive response prompted its return to the core range. The Green Label is one of the three Johnnie Walkers to carry an age statement and for this bottling its 15 years. TASTING NOTES - With a smooth, sweet character, Cardhu Gold Reserve is a rich and mellow whisky with warm notes of baked apple and toffee

Popular distilleries

After Walker died in 1857, it was his son Alexander Walker and grandson Alexander Walker II who were largely responsible for establishing the whisky as a famous brand. NOSE: The sherry cask sweetness comes through. There is also some mild smoke and spice. The nose has an old-world feel to it. Hints of dried fruits, tobacco and leather. Nosing this Johnnie Walker Swing, you can almost imagine the old leather couches in a gentleman’s club in London during the early 1900s. The story behind this blend is well-known, so here’s the two-sentence version for the sake of brevity and non-redundancy: The late Sir Alexander Walker II, grandson of John Walker, crafted the Swing blend in 1932 for the ostensible purpose of creating a “swinging” bottle that would be distinctive on ocean-liner bar shelves. It’s also the last blend that Sir Alex created, and the modern version is presumably as close to the original as available ingredients will allow. FINISH: Long and rich. It ends in rich notes of spice and oak with a hint of cloves. Swing is an easy-drinking whisky.
