About this deal

The chilli is subtle, but this paste is creamy, well rounded and moreish, and incredibly versatile — a great cook’s ingredient, but also perfect for dipping. From 476 (the Blue Route) north, take Exit 13 for St. Davids/Villanova. Turn left to head west on E Lancaster Ave. Go 2.5 miles and the Eagle Village Shops will be on your right.

Traditionally Victoria Sponge Cake uses caster sugar, very finely granulated sugar. Instead we’re going to use organic pure cane sugar with its natural caramel-like flavor and cream it with the butter for several minutes to create a fluffy mixture that will be incorporated into that delicious sponge cake. Pipe the buttercream onto the bottom half. I piped it in the pattern pictured below to allow the jam to flow down between the dots in a visually nice pattern.

Taste of Britain also carries jams and marmalades to top your crumpets and scones, including Tiptree jams and conserves and Duerr’s, Frank Cooper’s, and Robertson’s marmalades. For something unique, try the Bowmore Islay Whisky marmalade, made by the oldest licensed distillery in Islay, Scotland. We are located on route 30 (Lancaster Avenue) in the west end of Wayne, close to Strafford. Cross streets of route 30 are Conestoga and Eagle Road to the east, and Sugartown and Old Eagle School to the west. The Eagle Village Shopping Center is on the north side of rt 30. Bank of America is across the street, and we are near Bertuccis. These Mini Victoria Sponge Cakes are perfect for your next chic tea party, bridal shower, birthday or other special occasion. The same is true of sugar. Put a few grains of regular sugar on your tongue. The receptors on your tongue identify it as sweet, but no flavor. That changes when you use quality sugar. I did my own taste test with Tate+Lyle® Organic Pure Cane Sugar and had everyone in my family do the same, comparing table sugar with a top quality sugar. Beyond merely the “sweet” sensation in your mouth, you’ll detect warm, subtle hints of caramel. The flavor is truly delightful. And the outcome of your baked goods, your tea, or however you use it, will benefit from quality sugar.

There’s also a nice selection of cookbooks. I collect English, Irish, Scottish, and Welsh cookbooks, and I couldn’t resist adding Pride and Pudding: The History of British Puddings by Regula Ysewijn to my collection. Pipe a dot in the center of the bottom cake half and pipe 4-5 more dots around the center dot. Spoon some jam on top, carefully helping it to run between the dots for a prettier presentation. In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar for 4-5 minutes. Add the vanilla extract. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating after each until incorporated. Using a rubber spatula, fold the flour mixture into the wet mixture until incorporated. Be careful not to over-stir or the cakes will be dense. A Taste of Britain was featured on NBC10 for participating in Main Line Today’s Restaurant week in March, 2023. Taste of Britain is located in downtown Norcross, Georgia, about 20 miles northeast of Atlanta. The charming downtown district is filled with small shops and restaurants and makes a great day trip. On my visit, I stopped at the Iron Horse Tavern, which has the feel of a traditional English pub. The menu is heavy on American favorites, but they also serve bangers & mash, fish & chips, and shepherd’s pie, and you can play a good game of darts. Are you looking to satisfy a sweet tooth? There’s an extensive selection of Cadburys and less common sweets such as Bristows bon bons, Buchanan’s Iron Brew Humbugs, and Dip Dabs. The shop gets two enthusiastic thumbs up from me for carrying Milky Bars, which can be difficult to find in the US, and for its large assortment of Walker’s Toffees. You can simply spread the buttercream onto the cakes with a knife, but for a more decadent look, fill it in a pastry bag with a round tip.

Directions

A perfectly balanced set marmalade studded with onions, with a lovely depth of flavour. A cheeseboard must-have.

To make the buttercream, beat the butter, powdered sugar and milk until smooth and creamy. If it’s too dry, add a little more milk (careful, a tiny bit goes a long way). If it’s too runny, add some more powdered sugar. You’re going to love these Mini Victoria Sponge Cakes. So soft and flavorful with a deliciously rich buttercream and jam filling.
