Warhammer Community: Dan Abnett Interview – How to Start and Finish the Most Epic Series in Sci-fi (posted 8/6/2022) (last accessed 8/6/2022) I The Solar War • II The Lost and the Damned • III The First Wall • Sons of the Selenar • IV Saturnine • Fury of Magnus • V Mortis • VI Warhawk • VII Echoes of Eternity • Garro: Knight of Grey • VIII The End and the Death ( Volume I • Volume II • Volume III)

Working out the story he wanted to tell must have been the most difficult part of writing this for Dan Abnett, because we know what should be in this book and can even guess what should be in part two – the shields of Horus’ flagship are lowered, the Emperor, Dorn, Sanguinius and his Custodian Guard teleport aboard. A fight ensures. Thats not how it went though. Then again, Abnett already retconned the Ol' arc that you are putting Sanguinius into...so who knows what else he will change. There’s one point that he’s especially eager to stress: this isn’t the third book in a trilogy. It’s the third part of a single novel that was simply too huge to publish. He summons Vulkan, Sanguinius, Dorn and Valdor to the throne Sanguinius praises Dorn and hugs him, crying a single tear. He then praises Valdor and calls him brother. Valdor in annoyed by this and tells Sanguinius to do it another time. Sanguinius tells him to pretend they may not see each other again and Valdor praises his honour but says no embrace is necessary The Emperor sees that the shields of the Vengeful Spirit are down and he needs to take the chance to kill Horus because otherwise he will lose the war on Terra. he commands Dorn and Valdor to come with him, tells Sanguinius to remain on Terra and command the defences as Warmaster, Vulkan will remain in the Throne room, ready to blow it up if everything goes wrong.Because the Emperor is on the first book's cover? And the clash between Sanguinius and Horus was really the dividing line for the Emperor- before Horus killed Sanguinius there was still some hope that he could be turned from his path, but once the Emperor saw Sanguinius (arguably his most noble son) dead by Horus' hand He knew that destroying Horus was the only way. The Emperor's forces are all split up when they teleport. Dorn is teleported to a desert where he spends centuries surrounded by tens of thousands of dead Imperial Fists. he slowly forgets of the Siege and begins to be tempted by Khorne who promises an end to thinking and plans and the life of a simple warrior who only needs to kill his enemies. Doombreed, the host of Drach'nyen, Be'Lakor, N'Kari, Ku'gath, Skarbrand, The Masque, Bubonicus, Ulkair from Dawn of War etc. were all summoned by a person Horus thinks is Zardu Layak and are fighting on Terra The Emperor and Malcador discovered Malcador could use the Throne and not immediately die some time after first finding it, so Malcador takes the throne while The Emperor goes to meet Horus. Malcador dumps all of his final instructions and thoughts out onto his chosen agents telepathically before sitting the throne

The End and the Death is the final, torturous step on the road the Great Crusade began. With the empire contracted to a single planet, the dream of the great work lying in ruins, the full fury of the Space Marines exhausted and turned inward to purge and scour the homeworld itself, you can’t help but see the beating heart of the novel as Dan Abnett. Not the Emperor, not Horus, not Malcador. Dan. Dorn and Valdor in particular were vastly enjoyable. Sanguinius is not a character I’d written much of, but I had fun with him. He’s an extremely difficult character to write, and a challenge that I really enjoyed. And weirdly, I found an enormous sympathy with Abaddon and the situation he finds himself in – where he’s obviously completely committed to doing terrible things. While exploring the Imperial library Loken finds a door that didn't exist previously and it takes him to the Vengeful Spirit. The book ends with him entering the shipTerra is besieged. The outcome of the war lies on a knife edge. The Warmaster Horus’ bloody seven-year crusade has led to this – the cradle of humanity, where he is to kill his father, the Emperor. Now is the perfect time to catch up on all 62 books from the Horus Heresy . Or, at the very least the eight currently available Siege of Terra novels.* Pushed for time? Get a recap of the events from The Solar War to Echoes of Eternity right here . And while he’s now finished with the Horus Heresy, Dan’s far from finished with Warhammer. He’s working on another novel set at a more contemporary period in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, one with a very different scope – but we wouldn’t be Warhammer Community if we told you what that was just yet! For now, he just hopes that people enjoy the end of the saga. Soulblight vampires are blessed (or cursed?) by Nagash with immortality – so why is Nyssa Volari dying? Gary Kloster explores the impossible in The Last Volari. We’re not going to go into every little detail of the plot here. I can’t promise this will be spoiler free, but we’ll give it a go.

The cover art is awful. Presumably same person who did the awful Master of Mankind's and Visions of Heresy covers With the war at this critical juncture, Sanguinius, primarch of the loyalist Blood Angels, braves the horrors of the Warmaster’s flagship, The Vengeful Spirit, with a single purpose in mind – to slay his brother Horus, decapitate the Heresy once and for all, and stop the forces of Chaos from taking Terra. So that’s what’s in the book, what’s good about it, what isn’t so good, and how it’s written. But that’s not all this one is, because there’s a great deal of symbolic importance to the End above and beyond it being the first half of the End itself. Here’s the epic artwork for The End and the Death Volume 2 – expect more details on this second volume next year. The shattered remains of Cadia still hold some secrets – and new lord castellan Ursula Creed cannot escape their pull. Find out what awaits her there in Creed: Ashes of Cadia by Jude Reid.

Volume two of The End and the Death is coming later this year, but as we revealed last week in an interview with Dan Abnett , there is a third volume coming – and today we can unveil the cover. The war for the future of the Imperium has reached a critical juncture. With Terra besieged, and the defenders scattered and broken, the Warmaster’s victory seems to be in sight. Sanguinius, Primarch of the Blood Angels, steps foot on The Vengeful Spirit with only one goal: to kill his corrupted brother and end the war once and for all. The Emperor was Alexander the great and potentially Jesus. Horus laughs at him for crying over a river thinking there were no worlds left to conquer. The end is undoubtedly on its way, but tying up a series as sprawling and complex as the Horus Heresy isn’t so simple! A subreddit for the lore and stories encompassing the dark future of the Warhammer 40,000 franchise

Malcador begs the Emperor to talk to him multiple times but gets no response, the Throne is overwhelming the Emperor with pain but he is doing a thousand things at once on the throne, inspiring individual soldiers on Terra, soothing civilians, directing the webway. Finally he reaches out to heal the Khan's soul and Malcador knows he has returned. The Khan is still injured and will take months potentially to heal but the Emperor is conscious again But first, a little warm up – the covers of Volumes I and II. The first featured the Emperor on the Golden Throne biding his time, the second his angelic son Sanguinius facing off against the Warmaster on the Vengeful Spirit … so what’s next? With Terra besieged and humanity’s salvation on a knife edge, Sanguinius, primarch of the loyalist Blood Angels, braves the horrors of the Warmaster’s flagship, The Vengeful Spirit, with a single purpose in mind: to slay his brother Horus, decapitate the Heresy once and for all, and stop the forces of Chaos from taking Terra. It took me two years to write the whole thing. It was literally the biggest thing I’ve ever done, the most formidable challenge, because there’s so much expectation attached to it”, he adds. “I loved it. I was almost sorry when it was over and there was nothing left to write – but I had to have a good long lie-down afterwards…”
