The little E50 is based around the ESS ES6068AS DAC chip, which includes MQA decoding. This handles PCM from 44.1kHz to 768kHz, in 16- or 32-bit resolution, plus DSD up to DSD512 spec (native) and up to DSD256 (DoP). It has an automatic on and off mode, so sleeps after one minute of no signal being detected and then powers up again when one is found. Its digital volume control means it can be used as a preamp but can also be set to output line level where no needless attenuation is applied.

Advice above is best for current situation. Tidal are working on making their desktop app tidal connect capable so if you are prepared to wait, you could save money buying a streamer and instead use your phone to control tidal on the pc and leave it wired to the dac. Depending on where you live, the time it may take for your exchanged product to reach you, may vary. Please allow 3-5 business days for mail-in exchanges to be processed. Looks like topping DACs are not the only victim, saw another Cambridge Audio DacMagic 200M with similar situation. I have an SMSL DAC that is also not “recognized” by Roon in the sense that it is not Roon Tested. It shows up as an “Unidentified Device”. But Exclusive mode is a USB protocol thing, I am pretty sure, regardless of who makes the DAC. OFS is a valid state of MQA indication for when a device receives an MQA signal already decoded by a downstream piece of hardware or software. As signals decoded downstream cannot be authenticated in the same manner as the original un-decoded bitstream we use ‘OFS’ which stand for ‘Original Frequency Spectrum’ to show this is still an authenticated MQA stream, and the end point device is rendering correctly, based on the Original Frequency Spectrum.Consider removing the “solution” tag, since that’s definitely not the correct way to set things up in this scenario…

It's not like you could ever hear the difference between -120dB and -140dB distortion and noise anyway. Are any folks using the E50's balanced output in preamp mode to drive powered monitors? Is that working well? E50 has a preamplifier function so you can control the output volume on the remote control. This will provide great convenience when connected to a power amplifier

Until now, I mainly used E30 and D10s D10 Balanced for DAC, but I bought the newly released E50 because it can also play MQA.

|I cant keep up. Still have my original dx7, but why so many variations of dacs, headphone amps? How many does Topping now make and how do you differentiate between the products? Bass is firm and tight, and the amplifier encompasses dynamic extremes without obvious signs of strain. Compared to my regular amplifier, the overall presentation was just a little drier and not quite so sweet and relaxed. But after I'd listened for an hour or more, this early impression became less and less noticeable as the ear acclimatised. I am not interested in changing the Node2i, it does what I need. I just wish that all products do what they are meant to do ;) i agree tidal is my main streaming service and mqa is a must, regardless what people say. im confident ill have to buy another dac, because i cant keep dealing with this thing, and treat it in cottons for it to not pnl error me. thats not happening.

The PA5 is a dinky Class D power amp claiming to deliver 65W RMS per channel into 8 ohms for less than 1% distortion, or 85W into 8 ohms with distortion rising to 10%. It measures 150x130x40mm and has a chunky outboard power supply. There are two sets of balanced inputs using TRS connectors and a single set of loudspeaker outputs for spade terminals or 4mm plugs. The front panel has a power on/off switch and a selector for the two balanced inputs. With OFS the D90SE already sounds huge, feeding my Rega Brio-R and my Focal Chora 826s. Way more body and depth to everything.

Topping E50 connected via USB directly to Roon Core as Audio Output, thereby via PCM output to Integrated Amp. Together, the E50 and PA5 make a great little budget, baby pre-power amplifier combination – with a clean, detailed and engaging sound. Indeed I couldn't help but reflect on the superb value offered by this brand. In terms of sound quality, Topping Audio compares favourably with rivals easily costing two or three times as much. Decoding in hardware or software, splitting the process or performing both in the same device, will not give any audible difference, as the decoding and rendering information is the same, based on the bitstream content. In essence, the system is working correctly and MQA content is being received and rendered correctly if you can see ‘OFS’ indication.
