In 1285, when Philip the Fair united Champagne to the royal domain, the town kept a number of its traditional privileges. John the Fearless, Duke of Burgundy and ally of the English, in 1417 worked to have Troyes designated as the capital of France. He came to an understanding with Isabeau of Bavaria, wife of Charles VI of France, that a court, council, and parlement with comptroller's offices should be established at Troyes. citizens with 4 players (5 with 3 players, 6 with 2 players); they form each player's personal supply (place the remaining citizens in the general supply). Troyes Dice | Board Game | BoardGameGeek

the player who placed the most cubes earns the larger VP reward (the upper one). In the case of a tie for first place, the tied players divide the VPs for 1st and 2nd place (rounded down to the nearest whole number) and any lower-ranked players earn nothing. During the Middle Ages, Troyes was an important international trading town. It was the namesake of troy weight for gold a standard of measurement developed here. [8] The Champagne cloth fairs and the revival of long-distance trade, together with new extension of coinage and credit, were the drivers of the medieval economy of Troyes. Saint Remy Church, with a 14th-century spire rising to a height of 60m (196.85ft). A 17th-century sundial on its south side bears the Latin inscription sicut umbra dies nostri super terram ("our days on earth pass like a shadow"). Troyes is a strategy game in which you represent a rich family from the Champagne region of France, using your infl uence to recruit and supervise individuals from the three prominent domains: military (associated with the color red in every aspect of the game), religious (white), and civil (yellow). The number of banners defines the number of cubes required to counter the event (it is impossible to place more cubes than there are banners). Notes : The Marauding event is always present; it never leaves play. The cards remain in play until they have been countered by the players. The number of cards menacing the city is not limited: Continue the queue off the board if necessary. Troyes is a worker placement, dice rolling game. With area control and hidden objectives thrown in for good measure. Players will allocate meeples at the start of the game to the three main parts of the city: the church, the castle and the town hall. Each meeple represents a die. You will recruit and roll to apply to various activities, which are openly visible on the board. However, you also have hidden objectives that are shared – but you only know the one you’ve drawn. Another one of my favorite aspects of the game is that each player has a secret goal that everyone scores. This adds in a deduction element of trying to figure out what bonuses your opponents have. This simple element adds a layer of depth that you can completely ignore if you want, or you can obsess over. I suppose anti-dice-game people might not be persuaded either, but this occupies similar territory to Castles of Burgundy insofar as it really doesn’t feel like the rolls of the dice are what ultimately determine the outcome. They’re a central aspect of the game, yet somehow it’s your strategic decisions, not the exact numbers you get, that take center stage in how the game plays out. Ladies of Troyes: A Word on the Expansion The board initially looks busy but is eminently readable once you learn the rules. How the Game Playsthe number of cubes that the player may place on the card (this number is equal to the value of the group of dice, divided by the number under the division bar, rounded down to the nearest whole number). Traces of the Roman paving have been found 3m (9.84ft) below the rue de la Ciré.( "Balades dans l'histoire du vieux Troyes") While most of the game’s VPs are scannable on the board, each player will have a secret objective (which applies to all players at game end) that can earn them additional VPs. The use of the dice in the game of Troyes is various: they help you to build cathedrals and fight all sorts of external threats. By doing that, you win influence, money, and victory points. Dice also help you get privileges and exercise them. Chapter 28 of James Rollins' sixth Sigma Force novel, The Doomsday Key (2009), is named "Troyes, France," as the city plays an important role in the plot. [ citation needed]
