About this deal

I'm generally a Freida fan, but oh my goodness this one was a giant disaster (I guess in my seemingly unpopular opinion based on Goodreads and bookstagram). I sat on this review for over a week because I didn't want to jump to any harsh conclusions because I honestly do enjoy Frieda's other work, but I can't get over the plot and rhetoric in this book. Assigned to work the night shift on Ward D, a psychiatric unit, medical student Amy Brenner grows increasingly convinced something terrible is happening as patients and staff start to vanish without a trace. Her worst nightmare becomes a reality. Book review of Ward D There’s something about this room that’s making a little ball of dread form in the pit of my stomach.”

I’m not dead. Did you think I was? That I’m some corpse my husband propped up in front of the second-floor window to frighten his guests? I’m not. I’m very much alive. And I’m afraid my husband is a murderer.” Amy is a medical student and is walking on pins and needles as patients yell "Let me out of here" and sing out tunes like "If your happy and you know it take your meds" , one even gives her a knitting needle (for her own safety). But they did give her the exit code, right?? Amy has been dreading her evening working on Ward D, the hospital’s inpatient mental health unit. There are very specific reasons why she never wanted to do this required overnight rotation. R easons nobody can ever find out. A major head spin filled with twists and turns that McFadden has so regularly and the aspect or her books I love so much! Amy Brenner is a medical student and just recently went through a breakup with her boyfriend, Cameron. Although she would have preferred to not be assigned to Ward D, it was a terrific way for her to earn extra credit and to take her mind off of her breakup.

p. 95 How does somebody get to the point where their brain stops functioning, like a normal brain? That their reality completely breaks from the reality that every person in the world lives in?

after all, if you meet someone who is truly mentally ill, that’s the only way to know that you’re sane.” Like all Frieda McFadden books Ward D was full if twists and turns - some predictable and others not.Nothing much happens until the middle of the book, but there is enough plot jumps to keep your head spinning. The build-up suspense is great, and the tense atmosphere jolts the reader and makes him doubt what's going in and who can be trusted. If you like your chill with things that go bump in the night, this is the book for you! This sounded like a YA book, and the characters sounded immature. For example, it was mentioned multiple times that Amy was dumped due to a test and people wearing heavy makeup. I couldn’t tell the difference in maturity in the 2 timelines that were several years apart. It all just felt like petty drama. There was so much build up around Amy knowing one of the patients, but their meeting was anticlimactic. I found the main character of this book to be a little annoying and I definitely prefer her books written from dual POV. This is all written from one perspective (although it does have Dual Timeline).

Will Amy survive the night? Medical student Amy is doing a night shift at Ward D, a psychiatric ward in Long Island. Amy is anxious and on edge the whole night and rightfully so when people go missing and weird things are happening. Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ Freida-McFadden-Author-of- Psychological-Thrillers-and- Medical-Humor-400860063303345/ I received an ARC ( Advance Review Copy) of Freida’s latest book, Ward D. After one night of interrupted sleep, and a break for a few hours watching The Masters golf tournament, it was finished. again I can see a woke person reeling in disgust by the language. Yet truer words were never spoken. My thought, I think the very nice and naïve people who have to put up with the savages that most are in this world are the highly susceptible ones. It was an okay book. I have read worse, and at times it made me lol as we follow the escapades of a medical student on rotation in the psych ward. How are you? The three most useless words in the universe of communication. Nobody who asks that question wants to know the answer. And nobody who answers ever tells the truth. “I’m fine, Paige.” That’s all you’re going to get from me on the plot / storyline. Anything else I could say could very well be a spoiler, and no spoilers allowed here! One of my new favorite's from Freida McFadden . I'm not sure if having worked on a psych ward myself made this book that much more entertaining, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. p.96 He’s playing the piano and is just so good. It’s sad that somebody with so much talent had their brain crap out on them like that. Is it true that people with incredible talent are more susceptible to mental illness? This is the 2nd book by this author I have tried. I just don’t understand all the hype. Her characters are extremely juvenile and I just can’t get through them. Read more

The overall story is fantastic and as usual with McFadden, it’s always a thriller that keeps you on your toes until a crazy plot twist or insane reveal happens. Don’t worry, I won’t ruin anything for you but this is an addictive story with a lot of tension, suspense, and some good twists that were decent for the most part.

Special thanks to Freda McFadden, NetGalley, and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for providing the Advance Reader Copy of Ward D. This review is my honest and personal opinion. My mother would say that boys don’t do anything nice for you if they’re not expecting something in return.” Mrs. Winchester is only a few inches taller than I am in my flats, but it feels like she’s much taller.” I listened to this audiobook and really enjoyed the narration by Leslie Howard. She did an amazing job, I look forward to listening to more books narrated by her.
