About this deal

Both versions of the phone also feature a fingerprint scanner on the rear of the device. Similar to the one on the Huawei Mate 9 and other Huawei/Honor phones, it doesn’t need to be depressed; simply place your finger on there and it will do the rest. Wileyfox has switched to a mostly aluminium body with this second generation of Swift handset, and it seems to have a natural touch with the material. The firm also produced spare batteries, clip-on covers, and screen protectors specific to their phones. Wileyfox ships the phone with a plastic screen protector. We managed to scratch it up pretty nicely in the first few weeks of use, but you can always replace it or rely on Gorilla Glass’s scratch resistance when that happens. Wileyfox Swift 2 Plus review | TechRadar Wileyfox Swift 2 Plus review | TechRadar

The Wileyfox Swift 2 has a 5-inch screen. Most of the basics of its screen tech are great. It’s a fully-laminated IPS screen, meaning the image appears to be right on the top of the display, and there isn’t much in the way of brightness drop-off when you look at the screen from an angle. This is a phone that feels better thought-out than many affordable devices. From its design to its Cyanogen-skinned take on Android, it’s got a sense of class and sophistication usually missing at this end of the price spectrum. The volume and power keys, both located on the upper right-hand edge, have a pleasingly tactile texture that means they’re easy to locate and operate without looking.Wileyfox was playing at a slightly higher price point and was a stronger online presence [than STK]," he added. "Merging the two businesses allows us to become even stronger online ... as well as significantly improving our production channels, sales reach and customer service offering." STK already has its own smartphone portfolio, but Salameh said it plans to keep the two brands separate as they compliment each other. It's reasonably bright and colours look convincing and natural rather than oversaturated; there's a warmth to the panel which is quite welcoming. This is a fully laminated screen too, avoiding the recessed look you’ll see in some budget phones. But this isn’t a sub–5-inch display, it’s a 5-inch display, and we could tell that the picture we were looking at wasn’t quite at the level of sharpness we’ve come to expect from high-quality phones.

It’s got some features that, although available on some entry-level devices aren’t exactly standard-issue, namely integrated NFC, which makes Android Pay a possibility, and an inbuilt fingerprint scanner. With a 424 pixels per inch image density, it’s actually marginally sharper than either the G4 Plus (401ppi) or Honor 6X (403ppi), although you’ll be hard-pushed to spot the difference. There’s no visible recession to the screen either, with in-cell technology putting the screen and toughened Gorilla Glass 3 in one to give it added punch. McCann, John (8 February 2018). "Pour one out for Wileyfox: the fledgling UK smartphone maker is no more". TechRadar . Retrieved 13 February 2018. Then there’s the phone’s 32GB of storage, which is generally considered to be the default allotment for a flagship Android phone in 2016.A smartphone lives and dies by its display – and the panel on the Wileyfox Swift is rather nice. The screen is protected by a sheet of Gorilla Glass 3, making it more resistant to breaking and scratching than the average screen. The Wileyfox Swift 2 doesn’t set any new standards for already hyper-aggressive budget phones, but it’s a decent choice if you’re desperate for a handset that’s made of metal instead of plastic. With a resolution of 720p, and at five inches across, the Swift has a pixel density of 294ppi. Though this doesn't quite get into Retina territory, in everyday use the screen is excellent.

Evaluation with early production date being visible: https://www.engadget.com/2015/11/30/wileyfox-swift-storm-review/ On looks alone, this is a phone that you’d expect to be running with Apple and Samsung. It’s not as easy on the eye as either the iPhone 7 or Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge– far from it – but next to flagship devices such as the LG G5 or Sony Xperia XZ it comfortably holds its own. The difference is that it costs just a third of the price.Colour is less saturated than most top-end phones, but these days most expensive phones are oversaturated anyway. The colour tone here is pleasant, with a slightly warm temperature that’s easy on the eye. The use of metal predictably gives the Swift 2 a premium feel as well as some welcome heft in the hand; in terms of build quality, there's more positive news – this is as solid feeling as you're likely to get from a low-cost Android smartphone, with no movement or creakiness under pressure. After the likeable Wileyfox Swift, the company has returned with a sequel, this time looking to bring premium materials and everything but the kitchen sink when it comes to core features. When Google debuted its Nexus programme in 2010 the public and press were pleasantly surprised. Nexus devices offered what were, at the time, excellent specs at a less than premium price point, and Nexus phones have enjoyed considerable success.

Side-by-side with the plastic Motorola Moto G, the Swift 2 seems much less prosaic. It’s comfy to hold, too. As an all-rounder, the Wileyfox Swift 2 X is a phone that shows consideration. The 32GB of integrated storage is double what the Moto G4 Plus offers, and on par with base-level flagship Android handsets. It’s not the cap, either, with microSD support up to 64GB also included. Design and display As it's an IPS panel, viewing angles are excellent, as is colour accuracy. The Swift runs Cyanogen (of which more in a moment), so the colour temperature of the panel, and other settings, can be tweaked.

A budget handset that's anything but

Wileyfox Swift Review: On sale now – and why you should get one". JM Communications. 22 September 2015. I’m fairly impressed by the look of the Wileyfox Swift 2’s rear, however. The way the aluminium plate circles up around the camera lens, and the bevelling around the fingerprint scanner and camera lens are really quite lovely for a phone at this price.
