About this deal

Water. All living things need water to survive, however, potato plants need extra care and attention when watering. The soil should be kept at a relatively consistent level of moisture, not too wet and not too dry. If the ground is allowed to dry up the plant and foliage will die but if there is too much water in the soil your potatoes will rot in the ground. Our 2L pots are ideal for the production of amenity plants grown for one year, most commonly used for our 2L herbaceous and shrub lines, this size is great as the plants are small enough to establish but large enough to make an impact when first planted. The only thing that seemed to work was the different layer method, I.e planting 2 seed potatoes but having one at the bottom and the 2nd one higher up, what I have learnt with this method is you have to plant both seed potatoes at the same time, it doesnt really work if you plant the first potato then fill the pot up as it grows and then add your 2nd potato and the first potato will be about 2 foot tall before the 2nd one emerges and gets crowded out. The sizing is estimated but this will give a guideline and we have used a garden spade to show the scale reference Use the green screw(s) to hold the pot together. Place a few rows in from the top and bottom of the point, ensureing they hold the bits of plastic that overlap together.

I must say I have been very successful applying feed and water via saucers in which final pots (not breathable Rhizopots) stand: seaweed as a balanced food, various tomorite concentrations or comfrey tea as potassium-rich food. Rarely after June 1st will this cause root problems and pots can be removed from saucers if cool weather visits. Applying liquid morning and evening (lunchtime too if temp exceeds 27C) means plants are always receiving water and nutrients on a daily basis. They’re tough, made from recycled material (bottle tops and the like) and are fully recyclable. At the time of planting out or potting on, remove the green screw(s) and uncurl the pot to release the rootball. Re-make the pot; wash and reuse afterwards for more plants. This space requirement is off-putting for many gardeners as it means either removing plants to make room or giving up on the idea of eating tasty, homegrown potatoes. Sometimes the pot design does differ if a different supplier is used but pot quality will not be compromised. What's your favourite potato variety for growing in containers, and why? Leave a comment below and let everyone know.... The type of potato you will grow also has an impact on the end result, most gardeners prefer growing early potatoes in pots. The early type are ready to harvest by mid-summer, this means they are not affected by the late summer potato blight like other varieties. The pots have strong grab handles on either side, which make them easy to move around safely whenever you need to do so. They also have pre-formed drainage holes on the bottom and side to ensure your plants will never become waterlogged because any excess water can freely drain away. It is particularly important for those feeding organically that there is plenty of oxygen in the root system because soil microbes need oxygen too!

It should come as no surprise then that, potatoes are one of the UK’s most farmed crops and have become a favourite among those who grow their own food. Normally potatoes require a lot of space to grow. When planted in the ground, it is recommended to leave at least 45 cm between each row. (see the diagram above) Please leave an air gap between the two pot walls of approximately 5cm. Do not fill the gap between the decorative pot and the Air-pot with soil. seed potatoes yielded 3.5lb (1.6kg) of potatoes from the same amount of compost etc. Many of these were smaller than a golf ball, although there were some larger ones. There were a lot of pea sized, inedible ones. Four maincrop plants left for final pots on Monday, given weather forecast, soil based going in on Monday too and 31st for Quadgrows and other competition plants. Tip: Add 4-5 cm of soil around each plant so that they are all surrounded by a small hill which covers around one-third of the showing plant. Don’t worry about the covered leaves dying, the plant will grow more.
