If you’re using the IKEA Ultrusta cabinet hinge from the new Sektion system, here are a few measurements you’ll need to fashion your template. Drill the hole in the door with a 35mm hinge cutter for your drill or router. I didn’t make a template this time as I only had four hinges to do, but I will soon as I remembered there are two more small and shallow 9mm holes you need to drill to clear two ‘dimples’ on the hinge part going into the door. They look like leftovers from the time when the hinge was screwed into the door (before the friction clasp). Drill the 35mm hole first and pop the hinge in the hole and square it up. Mark the inside of the two small holes, remove the hinge and drill 9mm holes around 4mm deep (little more than a dimple really). Here they are… To ensure you get the correct hinge it’s often easier to remove an existing one so that you have something to compare your would-be replacements to. This way you will then get an exact match.

Once the mounting plates are fixed you can then fit the door in place. Open out the hinge on the door so it is horizontally level with the door. Once positioned accurately drill the recess down to a depth of 11-12mm. Stop periodically and test fit the hinge cup to make sure all is well.

The first is cheaper to produce, while the latter is tougher. Hinge cup: The hinge cup is the part of a concealed hing that is fixed to the cabinet door. A 10-12mm recess is cut into the rear of the door for the cup to sit in

Calling the Everbilt template a cabinet hinge jig is a bit of a stretch, but as a low-cost way to mark out cabinet hinge positions, it works fine. It also includes the necessary Forstner drill bit, though not the 1/16-inch bit for hinge retaining screws. Well, all the info I have for you is on the images and text in the post. I can add that you need to be sure the distance between the top and bottom hinges is a multiple of 5cm (the distance between each set of mounting holes in the cabinet). Use the tables below to work out how many hinges you will need to install to the cabinet door you are fitting to ensure it opens and closes correctly and more importantly doesn’t sag. There are removable corner inserts, so the Ryobi jig can be used for round- or square-cornered hinges (though the latter will still need finishing manually with a chisel). A high-quality router bit is included, as is a self-centering drill bit for making the actual hinge holes. Both bits are conveniently stored onboard the jig body.
