About this deal

I almost never find myself wanting to listen to it (outside of doing this A/B/C), and do plan to either give it away or sell it. Still, one of the main reasons I use the 702 every day is because it handles everything really well and sounds fantastic to boot. Draconian - Bloodflower [24/96 FLAC]: Yeah, feels dark. I was afraid because of the thrash segment. After that I realized that was about signature brightness of Megadeth. It's not that bright here. Well, it's not a direct hit for the genre though. Beyers should be better for that. Female vocals are whole another story, sounds excellent.

I found this explanation (worth reading) [ http://lsirui.wordpress.com/2009/04/15/k701-vs-hd650-electrical-measurement/] when I was originally researching my K701. It also applies to the K702 and K612 IMO. The better the amp's ability to deliver - the better the overall bass response and frequency overall should be. Anyway - don't skimp on amping. Okay, now that my rant is aside, that IS a tough decision. I would lean towards K702 only because the 400i has a somewhat essy treble and can get fatiguing while I don’t experience any fatigue with the 702. Both are very comfortable. What you’ll find is that a planar does tend to have slightly better timbre than a dynamic, and the differences, while subtle, are still there. So yeah, HIFIMAN outperforms by a smidgen, but the essy treble at times may turn you off. This CAN be EQ’d down a bit. One can expect the elastic bands for regulating the headband height to loose it’s tension after a few years. Build Quality: The K612 is a well-made headphone and feels solid in my hands. Only gripe is the cable isn't detachable but it's not really something I'm worried about as the cable quality is good and I take good care of my headphones. Poor adaptiveness – the failing of delivering the same perceived frequency response to a wide range of listeners – is the number one reason why we usually recommend headphones from other manufacturers over AKG offerings for use with SoundID Reference. K612 Pro manages to reverse this trend, as they deliver superb adaptiveness and are among the best in this regard, not only among AKG models! How much do they differ pair to pair in terms of frequency response? But be warned, this is not an easy headphone you can drive without an amp, you must use a decent amp/dac to get he most out of this, I found 612pro is harder to drive than DT150, dt770.880.990 (250ohm variants) and many others, so be prepare to spend some money if you already don't have a decent amp, it can be a worthwhile investment in long run. About your specific headphones you mention. I have two units of K702, and currently they're my joint favourite headphone with my Sennheiser HD560s. K702 has a really quite unique soundstage that is wide & expansive with some very impressive overall detail/resolution (all my experiences I'm talking about are when EQ'd to the Harman Curve). My HD560s has a narrower soundstage, but it's very accurate positionally within that less expansive soundstage.......the bass is also very very good in the HD560s. So they're my two favourite headphones out of the various headphones you see listed in my sig........you can see there's still differences between headphones when EQ'd to the same Target Curve. I have had fairly good results with damping the treble on some headphones using felt in front of the driver and it appears as though this headphone reacts well to this treatment as well. It’s also great for pretty much all genres across the board but does excel with lighter compositions.

AKG K612 Pro Studio Headphone Review - Sonarworks Blog

It is a very comfortable headphone with enough clamping force and enough space for the ears. The pad’s inner diameter is 80mm, the height is about 20mm. There’s nothing inherently wrong with a signature as flat as the 612’s is, but I think most people are going to appreciate the added energy that the 702 brings to the table. I’ve gamed with both – and no real preference at the moment. I certainly don’t feel the K612 are diminished in any way for directional queues in FPS gaming, and the slightly warmer tone actually adds to the enjoyment. My Top 2 choices are the K702, then the K712, followed by the K612, K701, and then Q701. I really don’t see a need to link all of them, so I will link the first 2 instead. To start off, the K612 is the most neutral and flat out of the entire line, to my ears and in looking at graphs.

The increased upper treble (clarity is not affected, it resides lower in the frequency band) can be lowered quite simply.Oh my God. After I read this, “I really like the idea of planars, but from what I read they have bad imaging and soundstage.”, I’m not even lying to you, my head started to hurt. Lol. Brain cells melting. Who the h*ll are these people who say outlandish stupid crap like that? Like I’m not even kidding.
