The sixth test is that worship becomes easy. A righteous man once said, "Over a span of thirty years, I performed my night-devotions with great difficulty, but during the course of the next thirty years they became a delight." When love to Allah is complete, no joy is equal to the joy of worship.

The second cause of this love is that man loves his benefactor, and in truth, his only Benefactor is Allah, for whatever kindness man receives from fellow-creatures is due to the immediate instigation of Allah. Whatever the motive that may have prompted the kindness he receives from others, Allah is the One who set that motive to work. These are signs which magnetise one towards the court of Allah the Almighty and lift him from the ground towards His throne. Reflecting upon these signs inculcates love for God in man’s heart.” (Ibid., pp. 188-189) 3. Compassion for God’s creationYou must imagine the creation of Allah before your eyes and think, ‘These people are beloved to my God. If I am unable to behold and experience Allah the Almighty, then I will love His creation, knowing that it is the source of gaining His love. Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said : “The similitude of the one who remembers (glorifies the praises of his Lord) in comparison to the one who does not remember his Lord is like that of the living and the dead.” [Al-Bukhari]. Still, there are some who take others as Allah’s equal—they love them as they should love Allah—but the believers love Allah even more.

After all, the Quran is the book of revelation from Allah s.w.t from which we refer to for reminders about many things, including love. Indeed it is guidance from The Most Merciful, Most Loving. Al-Mughira bin Shu’ba reported: On the day the Prophet’s son Abraham died, the sun eclipsed and the people said the eclipse was because of the death of Abraham. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “The best among you (Muslims) are those who learn the Quran and teach it (to others).” [Al-Bukhari]. Allah does not forbid you from those who do not fight you because of religion and do not expel you from your homes – from being righteous toward them and acting justly toward them. Meaning, ‘Surely, Allah loves those who are just’. (Surah al-Maidah, Ch.5: V.43)” (Ibid., pp. 194-195) 8. Taqwa: Make Allah your shield

In this verse, Allah tells us that Islam is here to purify ourselves – in all meanings of the word purify. This is a powerful reminder of the need to constantly purify ourselves both physically as well as spiritually. 4. Cleansing with water is a gift The following question was asked, and it comes up quite a lot: “W hat if someone doesn’t seem to be going through any major trials, and in fact, they are being blessed with abundance. Does Allah love such a person less than someone He subjects to obvious harsh trials?” Tests can take many forms, they can be great or small, a one-off trial or something we face consistently. They can come in the form of hardships… or, they can come in the form of blessings. Forbearance and compassion are the qualities of the Prophet Abraham which Allah has praised in the Quran. Say: If you should love Allah, then follow me. Allah will love you and forgive you your sins, for Allah is forgiving and merciful. Surah Al Imran 3:31 But yes, whoever fulfills his commitment and fears Allah – then indeed, Allah loves those who fear Him.} ( 3:76)Ibn Umar reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, passed by a man from the Ansar who was admonishing his brother about modesty. The Prophet said: And they ask you about menstruation. Say, “It is harm, so keep away from wives during menstruation. And do not approach them until they are pure. And when they have purified themselves, then come to them from where Allah has ordained for you. Indeed, Allah loves those who are constantly repentant and loves those who purify themselves.}( 2:222) Those Who Purify Themselves The love of Allah should occupy man's heart and get total possession of it; and if it does not seize it entirely, it should at least outweigh the love of all other things in it. Allah Says about the believers, (what means): "He loves them and they love Him," [Quran 5:54] and the Prophet said: " A man would not have attained faith until and unless he loves Allah and His Messenger more than anything else." (Al-Bukhari) When angel of death came to take the soul of Prophet Ibraheem the latter said, "Have you ever seen a friend take his friend's life?" To that, Allah replied, "Have you ever seen a friend unwilling to see his friend?" Then Ibraheem said, "O Angel of death! Take my soul!" The Prophet taught the following supplication to his Companions, "O Allah, allow me to love You and to love those who love You, and to love whatsoever brings me nearer to Your love, and make Your love more precious to me than cold water to the thirsty." (At-Tirmithi) Meaning, ‘And follow the nature made by Allah – the nature in which He has created mankind’. (Surah al-Rum, Ch.30: V.31)

Thus, one who strives to inculcate within themselves the divine attributes will generate divine love in their heart according to the extent that they begin to resemble God Almighty.” (Ibid., pp. 196) 10. Study the nature of love

6. Place your trust in Allah

Your strongest love should be for Allah. But you can’t love someone you don’t know. We need to know Him. You don’t know someone you never speak to. Speak to Him, Ask of Him, and you can’t love someone you don’t remember. Remember Him, Remember Him often. Yasmin Mogahed
