About this deal

Soups– top off your favorite soup with bacon bits for a delicious addition, such as tomato soup, this healthy roasted cauliflower soup, or my baked potato soup. Three Cheese Stuffed Mushrooms (Low Carb, GAPS, Primal) - add the bacon bits to the cheesy mixture for extra flavor.

Instant Pot Loaded Mashed Potatoes - top these with these oven baked bacon crumbles for an extra crunch. This is the classic grilled cheese sandwich made in the air fryer. Sandwich cheese in between two slices of bread. If the bacon is frozen, thaw it about 2/3 of the way. If it isn’t frozen, pop it in the freezer for about 30 minutes. Either way, the bacon should be very cold and a little firmer than straight out of the refrigerator, but you don’t necessarily want it icy. This will make the bacon easier to cut. Slice the strips in half lengthwise so they are thinner. Then, cut horizontally into chunks (remember they will shrink down when they cook). Salads & Soups: Finish off your dish with a crispy bite. Try garnishing Creamy Southwestern Coleslaw, Grilled Poblano Broccoli Cheese Soup, and Creamy Jalapeno Carrot Slaw, or mix it into Grilled Broccoli Crunch Salad. When it is is the perfect level of crispieness, once cooled, it should snap when bent at all. If the bacon bends, it isn’t crispy enough!

There are quite a number of ways to enjoy a grilled cheese sandwich. Below are some of them. Classic Grilled Cheese Sandwich Chop it up– Once the bacon is done and cool, use a sharp knife to chop through the bacon several times until it is finely chopped. This is personal preference, so if you like your bacon a little chunkier, you can roughly chop, or if you like fine bacon bits, keep chopping until the bacon is very small.

Next time you’re craving comfort food, try these Broccoli Cheese Loaded Twice Baked Potatoes. They’re loaded up with plenty of broccoli, cheese, and – everyone’s favorite – bacon!

Drain the bacon well– Once the bacon is done, you want to remove as much grease as possible from the bacon slices. To do this, remove the bacon from the pan while still hot with a slotted spoon or spatula. Transfer them to a paper towel lined plate and gently pat the bacon while warm. Cook in the oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until crispy enough to your liking stirring every 5 minutes or so.

How to collect bacon grease

Pastured and organic bacon is not cheap. Why not stretch that dollar (or 8!) further by collecting that gorgeous bacon grease for other savory dishes. Before ever making my own real bacon bits at home, Kirkland bacon crumbles was always in our refrigerator cos we add these to literally any thing edible yes from pasta, to salads, bacon grilled cheese, soups and more, we find that bacon bits are very versatile. Air Fryer Bacon Bits– Lay the bacon in a single layer on a piece of foil in the air fryer basket. Cook for 8-10 minutes at 400˚F. Continue with recipe draining and chopping bacon bits. Yes, you can freeze homemade bacon bits! I like to store mine in a zip top freezer bag labeled with the contents and date. To use frozen bacon bits, you’ll need to let the bacon bits thaw in the fridge before using them. Tips for Making Bacon Bits

Because bacon is high in saturated fats and toxins accumulate in fatty tissue, it is one of the food items that have to unequivocally be of higher quality for me. To collect bacon grease from the pan: tilt the pan over a jar with a small sieve to catch small bits (optional). The bacon grease will collect at the corner of the pan and drip down into the jar. Be sure to do this while the pan is still hot and well before the grease solidifies. But take extra caution as it will be hot - use an oven mit! Rather than cooking bacon and then crumbling it, this recipe starts with raw frozen bacon that gets chopped into bits. In its frozen form, the raw bacon is easier to manage and cut. And, after just a few minutes in a hot pan, your homemade bacon bits will cook to crispy perfection! Enjoyed fresh or stored for later, they’ll make any meal extra rich and delicious. My recipe for homemade bacon bits uses the oven method, however you can make bacon bits using other cooking methods as well. These two are the most popular aside from the oven.

Food Processor– If you don’t like chopping, throw the bacon in the food processor and give it a few pulses until you get to the right consistency. Bacon can be cooked from frozen if it is separated into single slices that they aren’t overlapping on the pan. Otherwise, bacon will need to be thawed before cooking. Mac and cheese: add bacon bits to your homemade mac and cheese or even store-bought mac and cheese for extra flavor and texture. If you enjoyed this recipe, I really hope you will take a moment to grab a few more easy recipes for another busy night!
