About this deal

I actually like my Bar Mitts so much that I have started to keep them on my bike for any rides under 45 degrees (much to the chagrin of my friends, family, and dog). Now, I just throw on some summer-weight gloves—or no gloves at all—and enjoy my ride without fear of numb fingers, ever. (And make sure you invest in our chamois and embro set to stay protected from the cold.)

Fat Bike Pogies (Bike Handlebar Mitts) – All the Facts 4 Best Fat Bike Pogies (Bike Handlebar Mitts) – All the Facts

Insulation is the key, but so is having the ability to isolate from the outdoors. A mitten can be as warm as possible, but if there are ways for wind to get inside, it is not going to do that much good. When is the Best Time to Use Bike Pogies?

That kept things comfortable until the temperature got up to near 50F (10C). At that point, I easily peeled the Bar Mitts off the handlebar and stowed them in my saddlebag for the rest of the ride. Overall, I was pleased, but I decided that my hands felt a little cramped in the medium size, so I exchanged them for a large. The good news is that there are some great bike pogies for people to invest in so that they do not have to deal with too much discomfort while riding. These can help people stay warm, and protect against any type of injuries on the fat bike as well. While you technically can use a regular winter glove to ride a bike, we recommend using a cycling-specific glove. These gloves are designed for better handling and are specifically made to grip a set of handlebars while allowing you to shift and brake freely. They’ll also last longer than a regular winter glove, which rarely has a palm pad that can stand up to the rigors of rubbing on your handlebar constantly. The problem with using a soft-shell ski glove with a snowboarding shell, for example, is that the gloves are meant to get some airflow so they don’t get soggy, so that combo means they’ll get damp and stink, even if you’re good about pulling them apart after the ride.

Some people mightn’t like the idea of having to cut into a brand new product they’ve just bought, but Oxford has thought this out carefully and once installed, everything looks neat and tidy. However, if I wasn’t using electronic shifting, I don’t think the smalls would have enough space for a full shift lever movement. And, as I encountered, the smaller opening does restrict my movement a little bit. I tried the larger mitts and they do indeed offer more freedom of movement but also take up more space, let in a bit more air and are all around bulkier. There isn’t a great deal to a pair of motorcycle mitts, but there are a couple of things to look out for. The hole for the mirrors must be cross-cut using a craft knife by the consumer, who then screws a washer down on top of the cut as they install the mirror. Personally, I found the cuffs to be annoying, and so removed them and rode without cuffs. While these would be great for keeping in as much warmth as possible in really cold conditions, during my rides in high winds and air temps down into the teens, I still had no need for the cuffs. I first tried the Bar Mitts on a 200-km brevet wearing wool liner gloves under the Bar Mitts. At the start, my hands were comfortable in the 35F (2C) temperature. As the temperature rose above 40F (4.5C), my hands started to feel too warm, so I partially opened the side zippers of the Mitts.
