About this deal

There are many types of wood filler and most depend on the colour of the wood. They are available in all timber colours or simply just light and dark. The multi purpose wood filler below (In the top tools box) is applied easily with an applicator gun and can be sanded down and stained.

Structural issues can come in quite a range and include things like the fact the ground supporting the foundation, path, slab etc. is sinking, the foundation supporting the given structure, path etc. has failed or the fact that the concrete mix that has been used to create the object isn’t strong enough and is now failing. Other reasons for failure can come from chemical damage to the concrete and also where any steel reinforcement in the concrete fails due to corrosion.Concrete is an incredibly stable and durable material. While versions of cement are millennia old, modern hydraulic concrete was first created in 1756. Concrete buildings, bridges, and other surfaces that are hundreds of years old are still standing today. Powder filler is the most practical choice if you have a lot of surfaces to prepare. It’s cheaper than ready-mixed paste and you’ll get a lot of filler out of one bag. The main downside is that you need to prepare it before use by mixing the powder with water. Another issue is that once you’ve finished with the prepared filler, you can’t reuse anything that’s left over as it will just dry out.

There are several different forms of mortar patching compound, some that use both epoxy and latex but many are cement-based, albeit normally specially formulated cement that doesn’t require aggregate, bonds well to older mortar and has much reduced shrinkage. Choice one is not plausible given that even the finest mortar or concrete mixture will clog in small crevices, so choice two it is. Chemical Metal and Power Putty fill, seal, joins and replaces metal, wood, stone, concrete etc. It sets in minutes and can be sanded, machined, drilled, tapped and polished. It is also resistant to water, salt water, oil, petrol, heat and cold and can be used to bond together different materials and seals leaks in Steel, Copper, Lead, Asbestos and Glass Fibre. This product can be bought from most DIY stores. Although many mortar patching compounds are good at what they do, they’re not quite as effective as their latex or epoxy counterparts, so if you can always opt for one of these.

Filling Large Cracks and Holes

Once you have completed the above steps and you are happy with the repair, it can be helpful to cover the area over with polythene (a bin liner will be suitable) to ensure that it cures correctly without any disturbance. Once cured, all epoxy mortars are as hard as nails and it will last you a lifetime Once squeezed into the gap the foam expands to about 3 times it’s volume. Once it has fully expanded, you can cut off the surplus, sand down and decorate or even render or plaster over. It’s incredibly versatile stuff, albeit a little messy. Pretty much all compounds will include instructions on how cleaning should be carried out in their instruction so follow them closely. The ARDEX Concrete repair range offers essential products for the professional tradesman, allowing for the rapid, non-structural repair of concrete, renders, and screeds. The range includes:

If you're looking for a reliable solution for exterior wood projects, we highly recommend using Bondo Wood Filler. Its two-part formula blends seamlessly to create a natural-looking medium-brown shade that can restore and reconstruct damaged or rotted wood. It's also versatile enough to be used to fill in missing pieces. After curing, which typically takes only 30 minutes, it forms a strong bond with the wood, creating a long-lasting and waterproof repair that won't warp or shrink. Resin based materials are usually hard to clean and the solvents used to clean them are pretty harsh on the hands so take care when using such cleaners and wear gloves, masks, eye protection etc. Within 15 minutes of application, you can sand it by hand or with a power sander. Wait another 15 minutes, and it will be ready for you to stain or paint as you desire. The acrylic-based wood filler requires lacquer thinner for cleanup. It should be used in an area with good ventilation, whether indoors or outside. Wear gloves while working with this product, as it can irritate your skin. Moisture resistant fillers – Designed to cope with humid environments, such as kitchens and bathrooms. Masonry repair fillers – These are designed for outdoor use and have high mechanical strength, as well as coping well with the elements. Each product has its own curing time, which is essentially the time it takes to dry fully and be ready for traffic. Some materials also have set times, which means it’s not quite dry but won’t move or run, and might even survive light rain. Using your wire brush, brush the joint out fully ensuring that you dislodge and remove any and all lose mortar that could affect the repair. However, whereas epoxy is a resin-based compound, latex is rubber-based. Due to this it does share very similar characteristics in that it produces a solid, water tight finish and also that it remains flexible.
