About this deal

The automatic self-clean function has become a bit of an obsession of ours (yes, it's fun to watch it in action, too). This is ideal if you want to make floors look glossy and give carpets a sort-of deep clean (it really is fantastic; 30 minutes with this vacuum and half the house looked like it had undergone a complete makeover). Next, I tested its cleaning performance. My kitchen floor often gets quite dirty because I have three cats that regularly walk in and out, bringing in mud from outside. The CrossWave Cordless Max made short work of even toughs stains that some floor cleaners struggle with, leaving a clean and relatively dry floor.

This device would benefit large families or those on their own, in smaller or larger spaces. We think it's especially useful for pet owners. The Bissell CrossWave Cordless Max can be used on hardwood floors, tiles or carpets - and there are no wires to trip you up. This multi-surface cleaner automatically cleans itself Credit: Bissell What's new with the Bissell CrossWave Cordless Max? We tested out the Bissell CrossWave Cordless Max in our not-very-clean house. Four kids, two adults, months spent doing everything at home, from crafting and cooking to rollerskating... you get the idea.Simply attach the CrossWave to its charging tray (ensure there is fresh water and cleaning fluid) and hold down the button in the middle of the device for around 40 seconds. Better yet, it's more advanced than its predecessor - the Bissell Cordless CrossWave 3-in-1 Multi Surface cleaner - thanks to nifty new features like self-clean technology. There are two separate compartments for bagless cleaning: one is designed for cleaning solution and water, the other collects the dirty water and debris. Although this model is called the CrossWave Cordless Max, it’s no bigger than the previous CrossWave Cordless. In fact, at just 5.22kg, this model is actually lighter than its predecessor. It’s also the recipient of a few design tweaks that make it the better cleaner overall. The compartment designed to collect dirt has a removable divider so liquid empties separately from dirt and hair.

The self-cleaning cycle gets rid of dirt as well as hair - something that would lodge itself into the model we tested previously - so cleaning the appliance is no hassle at all. Big bonus. The dust container of this vacuum cleaner has a capacity of 0.55 liters, offering ample space to collect dirt and dust before needing to be emptied. Additionally, it features a dirty water tank with a capacity of 0.828 liters, allowing for the collection of liquid messes during the cleaning process. On running out of power, the CrossWave Cordless Max takes four hours to recharge. Depending on the size of your home, then, you may need to schedule your cleaning over a couple of days. Our biggest gripe with it? It's heavy. After 10 minutes, you'll notice your wrist start to ache a bit. When it comes to hard floor performance evaluation, I’d like to think I have a good test bed for a device of this nature. Yes, kids make a mess and even some grown ups do, too. But nothing – nothing I tell you – messes up a house more than a bunch of animals. I have two labs and three cats and that means muddy floors on a regular basis… and hair. So. Much. Hair. Designed for powerful cordless cleaning for various wet and dry messes, liquid spills and larger dry debris like cereal In addition to general cleaning it can handle real messes: food spills (dry or wet), liquids, mud and dirt stains. We had them all, and it swiftly helped them to disappear, leaving a nice sheen on our floors. With 36V of battery power, the Bissell CrossWave Cordless Max has the ability to clean cordlessly for up to 40 minutes. The Bissell CrossWave Cordless Max is quite heavy The Bissell CrossWave Cordless Max: how does it work?

It can even clean dirt along walls and skirting boards, and is designed to spot clean as well as give your space an overall spruce-up. Powered by a battery, the Bissell CrossWave Cordless Max provides the freedom of cordless operation, eliminating the hassle of dealing with tangled cords or limited mobility. This makes it easier to maneuver and clean hard-to-reach areas without the constraints of an electrical outlet. This model offers 30 minutes of run-time from the powerful 36V battery: that’s five more minutes than the standard CrossWave Cordless. Not only that, but since cleaning ability has been improved, you’ll be able to cover a wider area on a single charge. I managed to clean my entire downstairs, plus the loft-conversion bedroom and bathroom on a single charge, and I still had a bit of juice remaining. The brush roll cleans itself in its storage tray, to flush out dirt, hair and debris after each use. Manoeuvrability is good, with the jointed head letting you sweep around and through bits of furniture and chairs. The only issue you might have is that there are now detail tools, so you may still have to clean some areas by hand if you can’t physically get the CrossWave Cordless Max’s head into a spot. This cleaner also claims to be able to handle stains on rugs, so I put it to the test on a dried-on ketchup stain. Here, performance was okay, getting rid of most of the stain, leaving only a trace amount behind. It has a user-friendly digital interface that indicates things like battery levels and whether you're on the setting for hard floors or carpets.

Clean and dirty water is kept in separate tanks, ensuring you are always using fresh water and solution on your floors. There's a power on button at the top and another one on the underside of the handle, which lets you squirt out a mix of water and solution, for a wet clean. The CrossWave Max weighs a very respectable 5.22kg and comes with an extra large 828ml clean water tank and a larger-than-average 550ml dirty water tank with filter attached. This means you can clean for much longer than others without having to refill the clean water tank or empty the dirty one. Top marks there. The new design also has an easy-to-use digital interface, XL brush roll to handle a larger surface area and - rather excitingly - an automatic self cleaning function. In terms of noise, I measured the cleaner at 76.9dB, which is similar to a regular cordless vacuum cleaner: you’ll hear it, but it isn’t unpleasant to use. Bissell CrossWave Cordless Max Conclusion It is very versatile and we love that it can be used anywhere in the house, to remove pretty much any kind of mess. Aside from the on/off button, the CrossWave Max also has a floor selector that activates two types of water intensity for treated wooden floors and non-porous compounds like tile, linoleum, polished concrete. A separate button activates the self-cleaning mode when the unit is mounted to the charger-cum-cleaning station. For us, that was just about enough time to really thoroughly clean three or four rooms - just note, your wrist is likely to get tired before then, as the one downside with this multi-surface cleaner is that it's heavy.
