Defeating Dark Angels: Breaking Demonic Oppression in the Believer's Life

Please read Ephesians 6:12-18. You are dealing with principalities of this dark world and if you are in this battle, you have been chosen by God to prepare as we are approaching end times. Again DO NOT BE AFRAID. Easier said than done but you when you put your trust in God and have faith that he will take care of everything, you will begin to walk in peace and be fearless. I don’t really have any stress or concerns from this work because I follow the advice that was given to me: no wife, no kids, and no pets. This is because the demons will take revenge on people close to us if those people are vulnerable.

Fr. Fortea says that “When tempted, prayer is our greatest weapon, a weapon as powerful as the greatest army or wealth. The demons know the power of prayer and fear it.” Which is more dangerous: dismissing the devil’s involvement in the world or attributing too much to the work of the devil? When ministering to the demonically oppressed, we should use Scripture, both when rebuking the devil and when counseling the person on how to get free from the oppression and stay free.

The temptation this warfare invites you to partake in is to believe what you see, and believe what you feel. (which, by the way are lies from the enemy. he whispers them in your ear, and because you believed it, you repeat what he says in your own head. THis is how satan takes us captive) The Lord tells us in a battle like this we are to take every thought captive to make it obedient to Christ 2Cor 2 :5 Feet fitted with readiness from the gospel of peace. This readiness comes from the peace of knowing that you have been made right with God. This peace can make you ready not only to stand firm in the Lord but also to share that peace with those around you. You have been given readiness to persevere in pursuing Christ. And even though you are in a battle, you are a minister of a gospel of peace. My friends… I’m talking about calling the Woman who is called the “Tower of David,” who is called “Virgin Most Powerful”, I’m talking about the Blessed Virgin Mary, our Mother. Fewer priests know Latin than in the past, so it allows more priests to perform exorcisms, concentrating on the prayers and forms without having to deal with a foreign language. Since demonic activity seems to be on the rise in the U.S., this should make it easier for bishops to find priests to help them in the exorcism ministry. In a concrete way, it started in graduate school for adult clinical psychology. I was doing brain-wave research on hypnosis and the brain’s ability to create false experiences. At that time, the paranormal TV show craze was just starting. I was curious if the people on these shows were just having false experiences or were mentally ill. I got called to the Pittsburgh diocese to look at a case there for them. That case is now known to the public, as they have written a book about it.

Humility forms the links of your chainmail, keeping you safe. Don’t neglect this elusive quality if you want to be safe from demonic activity. Invoke the Authority of Christ Fr. Fortea doesn’t recommend this step so that the Church can get your money or out of a sense of tradition. No—he recommends regularly attending church because it helps you to spiritually grow over time, and gives you the support you need to maintain those good choices we spoke of in the previous step.

If a spiritual life is your shield, prayer is most decidedly your sword. Don’t be afraid to wield it. I, (Name), a faithless sinner, renew and ratify today in thy hands the vows of my Baptism; I renounce forever satan, his pomps and works; and I give myself entirely to Jesus Christ, the Incarnate Wisdom, to carry my cross after Him all the days of my life, and to be more faithful to Him than I have ever been before. Can a Christian be oppressed by a demon or even Satan? The Apostle Paul relates that he had a thorn in the flesh to keep him humble (2nd Cor 12:7a) and the source of this thorn was actually “ a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure” (2nd Cor 12:7b). God allowed Satan to buffet Paul by some unnamed affliction or persecutors so obviously Paul was oppressed but not just by any one. It wasn’t just a demon by Satan himself, the ruler of the kingdom of darkness. Satan certainly saw Paul as a threat to his kingdom and probably the greatest threat there was at the time because Paul planted churches about everywhere he went. He was entering enemy territory. Demons and Satan are opposed to anything and everything that has to do with Jesus Christ, the blood of the Lamb, the cross, repentance, confession, forgiveness, and eternal life through the Savior. They absolutely detest it and will do anything they can do to stop it but they can do no more than that God allows them to do. Demons are Satan can do nothing beyond what God’s will is which explains why Jesus told Peter that Satan had asked to sift Peter like wheat (Luke 22:31). We can conclude that Satan had to have God’s permission first. When Satan wanted to test Job, “ the Lord said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your hand. Only against him do not stretch out your hand.” So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord” (Job 1:12). Now we have at least two people that were allowed to be buffeted by Satan but by no means destroy their salvation. Is Oppression or Possession? But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, “It is only by Beelzebul, the prince of demons, that this fellow drives out demons.” (Matthew 12:22–24, New International Version) The very name causes many of us an instant jolt of panic. Personified evil is an incomprehensible thing, and what we cannot understand, we fear.

In the course of his ministry as exorcist, Fr. Ripperger explained that in one case he “was seeking to cast a demon away from a person’s property, which had become infested, he was able to get the demon to reveal that they only have permission to mess with the property, but they have no rights over it.” It’s important to establish a baseline for the general laity to understand the difference between ordinary and extraordinary activity of the devil, and then to further define examples of extraordinary activity. All of us are tempted to sin, which is the easiest way to explain the ordinary activity of Satan. He tends to influence our thoughts with subtle messages we may dismiss as harmless, and then these can be entertained through our emotions and, if we do not rebuke them swiftly, can lead to sin. it likely is -- demonic in nature -- and call on the most Holy Name of Our Lord Jesus Christ to make itIs the person who experiences demonic obsession or possession incapable of helping himself, of warding off the demon alone? You may need to do this a few times, but no spiritual creature can resist this name in the end. In the end, even demons know who’s boss. Seek an Exorcist A Psalm of David.
