About this deal

The undercarriage of the Sydney Harbour Bridge echoed with the sound of the Goodison Gang as 150 Blues bounced on the waves beneath it. In 2000, this design was modified to add ‘1878', the year the Club was founded, and the word ‘Everton'. It is a design remained in place until 2013. The Blues boss made 11 changes and adopted a new formation for the Carabao Cup tie but could only grimace as a number of squad players failed their auditions for greater involvement in the first team. The manager retreated to his dugout more often than normal, and typically after poor passages of play from his side - including a botched corner that made little sense to those looking on. I just think to myself you cannot build anything on sand. The fans know it, ex-players know it, people in football know you have to build from a foundation. It is going to be interesting to see what the board and owner do because all the eyeballs are on them right now."

Those on the trips heralded from Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, from Dublin, Runcorn and, of course, Liverpool. All had stories to tell, none more than John Kelly - born in the shadow of Goodison Park and now one of the most influential figures of the Australian Everton Supporters Club - which has more than 2,000 members. Lampard won only 12 of his 44 matches in charge in all competitions, a win percentage of 27.27 that is far worse than his record at Derby (42.1%) and Chelsea (52.4%). 'Everton are staring the obvious in the face' But while there was no crest on the official shirts donned by the heroes of the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, the Club did have a crest which represented the ethos of Everton Football Club, a crest which has provided the template for many of our previous designs.

The problem that Everton fans find themselves with now is that the same people are going to be making the decision. There is certainly a vote of no confidence in the people that are making the decisions for Everton going forward.

It was a version that remained - with a one season absence - for a decade, before disappearing from our jerseys for 40 years. Of more immediate concern is who can Everton's board tempt to a club lying 19th in the Premier League amid a toxic atmosphere?

Last season Everton survived by the skin of their teeth, although that four-point gap looks impressive compared with their latest escape. The then manager, Frank Lampard, lauded the fans for “dragging” the team to safety and Dyche called on them to do likewise in the final weeks of this season and they delivered. Tactics and physical wellbeing are paramount to a football manager but they know the impact a fanbase can make. Events like this reiterate what a big club Everton is. Every day I learn more about this football club. I’m loving being here and I’ve really enjoyed getting the chance to meet our fans here in Australia.” It’s clear those fans are enjoying it too. But the design didn't move from the boardroom to the dressing room. There was no crest of any type on the Everton jersey until 1972, when white ‘EFC' letters were simply embroidered onto the shirt. This lasted for four seasons before a simplified font was introduced instead. Former England midfielder Lampard, 44, replaced Rafael Benitez in January 2022 with the team 16th in the table and helped Everton avoid relegation. However, despite agreeing with the decision, both said the situation highlighted deeper issues at Goodison Park.

That was also in response to some supporters confronting defender Yerry Mina and midfielder Anthony Gordon as they left Goodison Park in their cars last weekend. Campbell, who played for the club between 1999 and 2005, added: "There has to be a plan. Everton Football Club having no footballing foundation is crazy. Twelve months later, the crest changed again and the motif, which marked Everton's most successful period, was born. It comprised the letters ‘EFC' above a slightly reshaped Tower and laurel wreathes. There should be no doubt this is going to be a difficult season for Everton. But it need not be a disaster - and in the three home games already lost there have been underlying signs that the results have not told the whole story. The same is true of this narrow defeat to an excellent, title-challenging team. Then, in 1978, came the return of the Tower. This was the first time Kelly's design had been used on the kit and it remained for four years. In 1982, a simplified, circular design was produced, with the shield and the Latin motto removed. Former Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa is on the list of candidates under discussion as a potential successor to Lampard. Supporters of Fulham, Wolverhampton Wanderers and now Arsenal have left this famous old stadium in high spirits already this season. The same happened 10 times last year, with Fulham and Wolves among the clubs whose fans are making a disturbing habit of enjoying their trips to the Grand Old Lady.

The group organised the boat trips and could have sold out at least one more before they had to stop taking queries. League winners Ian Snodin and Gary Stevens were among those on board, chatting to everyone who would listen to them. Ultimately it got to the stage where it was inevitable. His record hasn't been great this season and unfortunately he's lost his job as a result of it."The most disappointing thing is we have a week of the transfer window to go, no manager in charge," Ratcliffe, who played 493 times for the club between 1980 and 1992, told BBC Radio Merseyside. "No-one at the football club, I think, has asked: 'What do we do after Frank?' Frank and his team's commitment and dedication have been exemplary throughout their time at the club, but recent results and the current league position meant this difficult decision had to be taken," added a club statement. I was puzzling over it for four months," Kelly said. "Then I thought of a reproduction of the 'Beacon' which stands in the heart of Everton." Lampard took over at Goodison with Everton 16th in the table, six points above the relegation zone.
