About this deal

The feats are all quite strong, as most of the 4th-level feats come with an ASI and a full feat’s worth of benefit. But, as we’ve seen with the latest 5e content and 2024 Player’s Handbook playtests, they also come with a feat tree-esque restriction system, which should balance things out a bit. We’ve reviewed each of these feats in-depth in our separate feat guides: Long ago, the giants were a mighty empire that ruled over the early days of the Material Plane. Today, you'll discover isolated tribes and clans of giants throughout the multiverse, each with a unique way of lifeand links to the bygone kingdom. Remnants of theirancientempires can still be found in remote regions, where statues and monuments stand as testaments to their mightysocietiesand rich history. Wizards of the Coast has worked hard to ensure no Giant encounter feels stereotypical or same-y. It’s clear these creatures are more than just lumbering behemoths, with no fate other than the end of an adventurer’s blade. However, in my opinion, I prefer setting sourcebooks, like Mythic Odysseys of Therosor Van Richter’s Guide to Ravenloft, to monster-focused supplements such as these. Frost Strike: Deal an extra 1d6 cold damage and reduce your target’s speed to 0 if they fail a Constitution save. This is a good ability for builds that want to keep their enemies within range, unfortunately targeting Constitution makes this a bit clunky.

They function as clerics within their society, so roleplaying one with a deep spiritual connection to the power within their runes opens up a lot of opportunities for different types of encounters with them, either in combat or through social interaction with your players. They could be antagonistic from the start, or perhaps they could be open to sparing the tiny lives of your little band of adventurers, if they’re able to aid them in some way. Frost Giant of Evil Water Among the various types of giants, including cloud giants, fire giants, frost giants, hill giants, stone giants, and storm giants, there exists a structured social hierarchy known as the ordning. Each giant is assigned a rank within this caste system, determining their social standing and relationships with others. Some giants dedicate their lives to excelling in the qualities valued by their society, seeking to rise within the ordning. Admittedly, they have some interesting non-combat encounters thrown in there, which is good for when you want to express to your party that not all monsters they encounter need slaying. What’s scarier than a frost giant? How about a vengeful undead frost giant? Frostmourns are what might happen when you don’t solve your frost giant infestation in an ethical way. A frost giant killed through some dishonorable means can rise up again as a frostmourn. That means a cunning party who tries to avoid a dangerous combat by killing a giant in their sleep might find themselves being stalked by a mummified giant’s corpse looking for that sweet, sweet vengeance.

You learn Comprehend Languages and can cast it for free once per day, but the primary appeal here is the runes. You get 1 to 3 runes per day based on your Proficiency Bonus, and each rune lets you temporarily know a single 1st-level spell and cast it once per day for free. D&D Beyond has released a free 16th-level one-shot, Giants of the Star Forge, which shows you how to use the book to make your own giant adventures.

You can activate this ability a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus (pb) per long rest. For abilities that require saves, you can choose from Strength or Constitution. While they’re often viewed as heretical within the ordning, Evil Water giants will often keep their allegiance a secret and attempt to push their communities toward the behaviors that appease Olhydra’s lust for violence. For their service, Olhydra grants her giants the ability to breathe water, making them a threat on land as well as underwater. from you in a straight, horizontal line. But that’s not what they wrote. “pushed 10 feet directly away from you” was right there.• Storm Strike: It’s on a Constitution Editor's Note: On August 4, we became aware that an artist used AI to create artwork that appears in Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants and that previously appeared in this article.Read our statement on the use of AI here. DnD Glory of the Giants review – strong but slim | Wargamer

Is that an earthquake? Or are massive footsteps approaching? Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giantsbrings a vast library of giant lore and character options to your game! A pre-existing frostmourn would work well as an encounter in a game set in the frozen north, amidst a horror-themed survivalist adventure like Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden, for example. But the true fun of the frostmourn is the ability to set it up if you have a party that likes being particularly sneaky or dishonorable. If you know your party is one that might find some clever way of defeating a frost giant without facing them directly in battle, having the frostmourn return later in the campaign seeking vengeance would be an excellent twist. Big Things Are In Store To add further variety, Giants also aren’t the only creatures you’ll run into. Glory of the Giants introduces plenty of Giant-adjacent creatures, from elementals to humanoids to Giant geese and tics. Existing Giants in the Monster Manual also get new variants to keep things fresh (many of which involve cults, rune magic, or the undead). The bestiary is the real treasure at the heart of this book, with over 70 DnD monsters to work with. There’s a lot to freak out about with a frostmourn, but easily the most terrifying ability that these ghoulish giants gain is the power to turn its targets into frozen statues. A creature petrified in this way has a single hit point and will shatter if they take bludgeoning damage, killing them. Frostmourn TacticsWhat if an ice giant succumbed to the power of an Elemental Evil? What if they devoted themselves to a demon lord? What if they mastered rune magic? What would a distant elemental relative of an ice giant be like? I quite liked all these cycles as it gives you a lot of choices to work with when you want to include a specific type of giant in your campaign. Since it's been delayed, I imagine they're just going to release once ready. They can't release earlier (obviously) and later screws the schedule, so they'll just release ASAP - they're no longer timing it with relation to Phandelver. In our 5e Feats Tier List, Strike of the Giants was given a B Tier rating, making it a niche feat that can improve some builds in D&D 5e. Some giants decide to shun their peers’ gods and turn to deities outside of societal norms, seeking power to defy their position in the ordning, a grave transgression against the ordning that results in social ostracism. Fee-fi-fo-fum!
