Use a basic, cheap gin. The gooseberries will do the flavouring work, with the gin acting as a flavour carrier. Veronica on Working hard on the cottage Oh ... only just found this! What a wrench to leave your beautiful cottage, I hope whoever moves in loves it as much as you do. Iy's such a special pl… Why has this happened? Well, craft gin is relatively easy to make meaning an awful lot of distilleries have popped up not just here in the UK but globally. There has been no summer so far this year in England. May, June and so far in July has been the wettest time since records were started over a hundred years ago. In fact it is raining right now as though it hasn’t rained for a month — simply tippling it down. The best of these red varieties is called “Whinham’s Industry”, which sounds eminently Victorian and North of England and probably is.)

Combining Slingsby’s original London Dry with the beautiful fresh flavours of elderflower and lemon juice will bring the flavours of spring flooding over your senses. Enjoy at any time of year to give you the feeling of that first, warm sun. Ingredients While some of you might feel you’re past the age of day drinking, nothing stops you from having one of these on a sunny day for brunch with some friends and family. These berries are less green and will have turned a deeper golden, or even pale red, colour. Do I have to use sugar in my homemade gooseberry gin? My great grandfather, the premier tenant within the park at the time, bought the farm at the centre of the estate and the rest as you say, is history. We have continued to farm and manage our picturesque corner of England since then, and more recently have begun to dabble in the wonderful world of spirits! And that leads us onto our good friends at The Spirit of Harrogate, who have developed some amazing, flavoured Slingsby Gins. However, once you’re into July or August, the gooseberries are a little more mature, softer and sweeter - easier to eat just as they are. Using a funnel, add the fruit mush to a clean bottle/jar so that the mix is about half way up the container.

Simmering would kill the brew. Our Gooseberry Gin Liqueur has been constantly developed and refined to get to its current level of quality. Smooth and fruity, this is an exceptional Summer drink with an exciting burst of gooseberry. Gooseberries may not be everybody's cup of tea, but there is something original about this Gooseberry Gin which makes it positively irresistible. How is it best drunk? The bitterness of the lemon juice compliments the flavours perfectly to balance the drink for ultimate consumer pleasure. Ingredients It is our sincere hope that you will enjoy our craft liqueurs as much as we have enjoyed perfecting and blending them for you.Put them in the freezer overnight, to begin to break down the fruit and release the sugars and juices. In terms of the base gin to use, we wouldn’t recommend using any of the beautiful craft gins you’ll find in our Gin of the Month boxes, for example, as you won’t be able to taste any of the beautiful, delicate botanicals. A good quality, neutral London Dry Gin from the shops will work just fine.
