About this deal

Altering your hair’s natural color can be a fun way to freshen things up, add to your confidence level and help achieve that sun-kissed glow we all crave during this time of the year. But before you go rushing to your hairdresser or local pharmacy for bleach or hair dye materials, consider hair lightening spray. When used properly, these sprays can naturally lighten your hair in a way that bleaching or coloring your hair can’t. And you can’t do it all from the comfort and ease of home. What Is Hair Lightening Spray? My darker roots were lighter, having taken on a slightly golden hue, and faded into the ombre-style blonde more gracefully. Even some previously brassy streaks of blonde, hidden underneath the top layers of hair, had been lifted, too. Wrap each hair section in a piece of foil to keep the peroxide from getting onto the rest of your hair. Repeat this process with multiple sections of your hair for all over highlights, or just do a few sections towards the front of your face for face-framing streaks. To ensure you are (safely) getting the most out of your spray, we recommend looking for sprays that include nourishing and moisturizing ingredients; look out for things like glycerin and hydrogenated castor oil, which will take some of that edge off of the hydrogen peroxide the spray is formulated with and prevent breakage. How to Apply Lightening Spray

This is a luxury hair lightener which works a treat and smells amazing, but the price might make your eyes water.” SOPHIE Swietochowski, 28, from Harpenden, Herts, says: “My highlights cost more than my gym membership, phone bill and dentist trips combined. Yes, Sunbabe safely and effectively lightens bleached hair. Both bleached and natural strands will lighten 2-3 shades over a few uses. If you prefer to use a store-bought product to help the sun lighten your hair, steer clear of those that contain hydrogen peroxide.Don’t have any beer on hand? Vodka is a common alternative, and its clear blue tones are thought to help lift hair’s brassiness, too. Just be sure, for either one, not to do more than one or two rinses monthly, since alcohol can majorly dry you out. (Plus, you don’t want to wind up constantly smelling like Panama City Beach during spring break.) 9. Proceed with Caution When Using Sun-In Results will stay light. Whenever you lighten hair, whether at the salon or with Sunbabe, it’s permanent because pigment is lifted from hair to create a lighter shade. Sunbabe lightens gradually over a few uses, so results are in your control. Continue use to lighten up to 3 shades!

After shampooing and conditioning your hair, apply the apple cider vinegar mixture. Let it sit for about 15 minutes and rinse with water. It took out the brassiness of my highlights and subtly lightened my hair, making me look like I had spent a week at the beach rather than visiting a salon.

How to Apply Lightening Spray

REBECCA Barnes, 42, from Holloway, North London, says: “My interest was piqued when I came across this reformed mist.

For you Sun-In fans, we hate to break it to you, but you might want to think twice. While it might seem like a natural method — hey, it says "sun" right in the name! — it's not actually a safe way to lighten hair. "That kind of product causes a chemical reaction with your hair. If you want to dye it later on, you have to remember that it will still be there and could cause damage later in the game," says Friedman. If you have been using a hair-lightening product before heading to the salon, fess up to your colorist to avoid breakage. Can’t Avoid Bleach? Take the Proper Precautions For more subtle changes, there are natural ways to lighten hair at home without bleach, some with household or pantry ingredients you may already have on hand. Just be aware of the results you can achieve based on your current hair color: "If you are a natural blonde, DIY treatments can lighten your shade around the face or on the ends," says Steven Picciano, a Goldwell National Artist. If you have darker hair, like dark brown, "the best result you can expect is a warmer, softer version of what you have," he explains. Are you ready to lighten up? Here are six easy DIY ways to lighten hair at home without damage, using natural ingredients like lemon juice, vinegar, honey, and more.Sophie adds: “I apply the spray, starting with my dark roots then combing the remnants through to the ends. Honey + Conditioner: Mix ⅓ cup of raw honey with ¼ cup of conditioner and apply to damp hair. Use a comb to distribute the mixture evenly throughout the hair. Put on a shower cap, go to bed, and shampoo the mixture off in the morning. Vitamin C is an effective way to make your hair lighter, thanks to its citric acid. Bodt regularly tells clients to try vitamin C washes. "That one is easy. You crush up some vitamin C, add it to a spray bottle and spritz it on. It brightens hair and removes mineral build up," she explains. (You can even skip the crushing step if you get vitamin C powder; add the extra powder to your water bottle for some natural immune system support!) 3. Use a Saltwater Solution Despite the popularity of this hair lightening method, both baking soda and hydrogen peroxide are quite harsh chemicals that can damage the cuticle and irritate your scalp if you add too much paste on your hair and hold it for too long,” Monica Davis, a hairstylist and founder of MyStraightener, said.

Because apple cider vinegar is so much gentler than, say, lemon juice reacting to direct sunshine, you can do this as often as twice a week without risk of drying out or damaging your hair. Simply apply the mixture throughout your hair, leave it on for 15 to 30 minutes, and rinse it out thoroughly in the shower. 5. Combine Baking Soda and Hydrogen Peroxide I saw a difference after the third go. By the sixth go, it had really given my blonde tresses a boost.Rebecca says: “The product can be applied selectively or all over to damp or dry hair. You can then either blow-dry hair or ‘bask in the sun’. Combine these two ingredients into a paste to lighten hair one to two shades, suggests Jessica Scott Santo, owner of Jessica Scott Hair in Sciota, Pennsylvania. Before applying the mixture to your whole head, do a strand test, Santo recommends, because hydrogen peroxide may result in hair damage or dryness. If all goes well, here's how to move forward: Honey + Water or Vinegar: Mix two tablespoons of raw honey (pasteurized, commercial honey will not work) into a cup of water. Apply the mixture to hair so it's evenly spread and let it sit for about 60 minutes, then shampoo. For extra clarifying, try swapping water for two cups of white vinegar: The vinegar will help gently lighten hair and also dissolve oil and residue buildup. Honey + Cinnamon + Olive Oil: This is great for strawberry blonde hair, as adding cinnamon to honey will produce a warm blonde hue with reddish undertones. Mix one cup of raw honey to two cups of water. Add one tablespoon of cinnamon and one tablespoon of olive oil and stir all of the ingredients together. Apply the mixture evenly onto wet hair, cover with a shower cap before bed, and shampoo it out in the morning. I definitely saw better results with the former. I applied it every day for two weeks, but a couple of times a week would probably work best for long-term use — it’s worth remembering that hydrogen peroxide, a type of bleach, dries out hair.
