About this deal

Daniel from Perth, AustraliaMan, I love this song. Probably the best on the album and one of Waters' overall best. The first lines of each verse (...Ha ha, charade you were) are brilliant. Pink Floyd had commissioned several stage props for a forthcoming American stadium tour, among them a giant inflatable pig, which would drift over the audience. Waters proposed photographing the pig over Battersea Power Station. Jeanette from Irvine, Cai can see where part of it might be inspired by "animal farm" but it's not exactly the same message so it's certainly not based on it. thats what i think anyway. Pink Floyd co-founder Roger Waters included a flying inflatable pig with a Star of David on it at concerts at least 10 years ago, not at a show in Berlin in May 2023, as has been claimed online.

Continent Latest news, analysis and comment from POLITICO’s editors and guest writers on the continent. A floating pig can be seen in the "Roger Waters - Comfortably Numb 2022" video, released 18 November 2022. Mike from AmericaThe song is not only about politics but human behavior as well. Pigs are the elite of society, the upper echelon, decision makers and providers of goods. Dogs are the mid-level, trying to get to the next step, doing whatever they have to to get there. Sheep are the low, passive, subservient that are the masses, content to stay on the bottom. The general concept of the album is to imagine the Sheep violently revolting against these ideas and reversing these roles.

Brian from Saco, Methis is probably the most underrated cd by pink floyd, this song in particular is my favorite off the cd, yet it never got very popular. pink floyd allways had ways of getting there ideas in a song, this cd truly shows how hard they worked to put realism and creativity to prove that.

Eran from Tel Aviv, Israel"Pigs" is definatly my favorite pink floyd song of them all , I still do not know to whom the first pig reffers to , but it is pretty obvious the second one is reffering to Margaret Thatcher , or to some other woman , as Waters saying " You (deleted) up old hag " , meaning a Witch ... 3rd one is definatly reffering To Mary whitehouse , and ive seen Waters preforms half a year ago and was praying that he would sing this song .. but i suppose that since Whitehouse is no longer alive he will never preform it ever again ... Francesco from Rome, ItalyHi, the first pig doesn't refer to someone in particular, but some say it was the Labour prime minister of the time the song was written. Reed from Hagerstown, Inthis entire album is based on orwell's book 'animal farm.' if you have ever read the book, then you know exactly what im talking about.

The pig that was originally floated above Battersea Power Station was called "Algie". [6] [7] In the Flesh [ edit ] Day after day, during the broiling heatwave summer of 1976, Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters would drive past Battersea Power Station on his way home to Clapham. He felt drawn to that towering monument to coal-fired energy. “Maybe it was the architect in me, but there was something menacing about the power station,” he says. “But I also liked it as a symbol for the band. It reminded me of an upside-down table, with four phalluses, and there were four people in a band that had been turned upside down.” Ryan, Jim. Oldpink from New Castle, InSome of Roger's most sarcastic lyrics, especially the "Mary, you're really a treat/Mary, you're really a treat, but you're really a cry" The balloons at his performances, which have changed designs over time, often display political messages and are widely accepted as sometimes featuring people, organisations or ideas that Waters protests. Rhcpguy from Arroyo Grande, Caif anyone has ever seen or read Animal Farm, it has just about the same meaning of this song. The pigs are the cruel overlords, the dogs are the law enforcers, and the sheep are the pedestrians taht follow the crowd and do what they're told.Somebody asked for the pig to get higher, the guy from Germany loosened the winch and it started to unwind,” recalled Botschuijver. “He jerked the brake and I heard “Ding!” The ring broke.

The team returned to re-shoot the image this time armed not only with a 40ft inflatable pig balloon and stronger ropes but a sharpshooter to bring down the balloon should it break free again. While Powell laments “the most incredible, Turner-esque sky” they had for the first shoot and was subsequently lost on the second, the final result is still marvellous. Powell admits though that the final result was a manipulated image: “It’s actually a completely faked photograph”. We received permission from Battersea,” explains Powell. “The only thing they were worried about was the pig banging into one of the chimneys. I reassured them it was only a plastic pig.” Animalswould reach the Top 10 in both the U.S. and the U.K., selling more than four million copies. The pig, which Waters had named Algie, became a concert staple. Meanwhile, Battersea Power Station officials report that a largepercentageof visitors to the now-closed facility are still Pink Floyd fans. During the 1994 tour, two warthog-like pigs with protruding tongues were shown at the top of the stage side's speaker towers, sometimes just deflated, sometimes dropped on the ground after " One of These Days". This was also during Pulse, but for the VHS, Laserdisc, DVD and Blu-Ray releases, footage of the pigs falling was edited out. [ citation needed] The pig briefly appeared on 10 June 1988 at Beaujoire stadium in Nantes, France; it flew above the crowd for a very short time, after which it was seen to deflate.Trey from Kalamazoo, MtThis song is so awesome if you stabbed it with a knife, it would create a supernova and you would die of your injuries several weeks later in the ICU of some run down hospital. During a concert in Chicago on 8 June 2012 at Wrigley Field, the pig crashed into the crowd behind home plate and was ripped to pieces by the crowd.
