The plastic sphere was, of course, well disguised: not only coated with gold filigree but also surrounded by a floating constellation of diamonds arranged in the shape of Charles’s star sign, Scorpio. The new stamps – the first set to be approved by the King – will go on general sale from 10 November. They will feature images of the Queen through the years. The final image was adjusted to ensure a likeness to the King’s image on the definitive ‘everyday’ stamp.
