Ruggles, Clive L. N. (2005). "Ley Lines". Ancient Astronomy: An Encyclopaedia of Cosmologies and Myth. Santa Barbara: ABC-CLIO. pp.224–226. ISBN 978-1-85109-477-6. The latter is actually about the Greenwich Meridian but you’ll soon realise as you read the book that the author (someone who has been researching and writing since the 1970s) suggests the meridian is itself evidence of a major channel on the Earth’s energy grid.

some people remembered what had happened here and cared enough about it to commemorate the spot. Perhaps the secret society that created the omphalos is still around to guard it. In fact, as you follow the ley line from the omphalos south to the river, you notice that almost the entire stretch is undeveloped: parks, gardens, football pitches. From one perspective, the tale of ley-hunting is one of a classic modern religious movement, arising with an apocalyptic language which appropriated some of the tropes of evangelical Christianity, flourished for a brief time, and then subsided into a set of motifs and assumptions retained by a particular subculture of believers. From another, it is a frustrating tale of missed opportunities. The neglect of landscape and sensory experience by mainstream archaeology in the mid twentieth century was indeed a serious omission, which earth mysteries researchers could well have remedied to the lasting benefit of knowledge [...] Misled by a fixed and dogmatic set of ideas, however, they passed this by to focus on an attempted proof of beliefs which were ultimately based on faith alone.Of course, the modern ley line enthusiasts take a much different world view to most scientists, and indeed there’s nothing inherently unbelievable about the notion of energy running through certain points of the Earth’s crust. Watkins’ original notion, however, that they were simply trade routes, has too been largely rejected by mainstream science. Watkins referred to these lines as "leys" although had reservations about doing so. [11] The term ley derived from the Old English term for a cleared space, with Watkins adopting it for his lines because he found it to be part of the place-names of various settlements that were along the lines he traced. [12] He also observed the recurrence of "cole" and "dod" in English place-names, thus suggesting that the individuals who established these lines were referred to as a "coleman" or " dodman". [6] He proposed that the Long Man of Wilmington chalk geoglyph in Sussex was a depiction of such an individual with their measuring equipment. [7] Watkins believed that the Long Man of Wilmington in Sussex depicted a prehistoric " dodman" with his equipment for determining a ley line. Unfortunately, so far no one has managed to produce a leyline map UK or similar but if enough dowsers get to work and the information is collated then perhaps there will be such a map one day. The Wessex Triangle Some of them may represent trade routes, but to say that all of them together represent a single network is highly questionable. Ley Lines Still A Popular Idea

Yes, I know, it’s that vague New Age term energybut ask an experienced dowser to show you how it’s detected in the field and you’ll at least see a demonstration of something there. An experienced dowser might be sort that the geology, oil, water, and gas companies employ for locating fresh resources (butdon’t like to admit that they do). On a map, these monuments do line up, along with many others along the way, such as Mont Saint-Michel in France and places in Italy. This basin is an area on earth with great ocean depths and is yet to be unexplored. It is the marine basin area of the northeast quarter of the Indian Ocean. This basin bears the name of William Wharton (1843-1905), one of the first to discover it. It is also known as the Cocos Basin, after Cocos Island. Some call it the West Australian Basin because it lies east of the Ninety-East Ridge and West of Western Australia. 9) New Hebrides Trench To the north, the line passes through St Anne’s Limehouse, one of six churches designed by Nicholas Hawksmoor — and, in fact, right through a mysterious pyramid standing just outside the church building. Its purpose is unknown. It is not a tomb. And it has “Wisdom of Solomon” carved into it. Furthermore, the idea that they represented ancient trade routes is not entirely sound either. Many of these ‘trade routes’ would cut straight lines over large hills and otherwise insurmountable, or at least inconvenient, obstacles. Going around these obstacles would have been much easier than going through them (especially if carrying a lot of trade goods).Think of the cauduceus. If ever there was an apt symbol for a ley line then that is it. Two serpents coiled around a winged straight rod and the symbol ofHermes Trismegistus (Greco-Egyptian), Hermes (Greek), and Mercury (Roman). What Are Ley Lines Used For? Ley lines and sacred geometry vibrational energy are the patterns of life. For example, the Nautilus shell’s logarithmic spiral enables it to grow without changing shape. Similarly, honeybees construct hexagonal cells to hold honey. It is a perfect structural shape that can endure impacts and harsh temperatures. Ancient cultures ascribed particular meanings to these patterns for reasons which escape modern man. A mainstream BBC news article (10) discusses the mysterious nature of these energy ley lines and the planetary grid. How Can I Use This Knowledge? A study by David George Kendall used the techniques of shape analysis to examine the triangles formed by standing stones to deduce if these were often arranged in straight lines. The shape of a triangle can be represented as a point on the sphere, and the distribution of all shapes can be thought of as a distribution over the sphere. The sample distribution from the standing stones was compared with the theoretical distribution to show that the occurrence of straight lines was no more than average. [53] Also key to Dee’s thinking is the vesica piscis, a symbol from Euclidean mathematics, not unlike the early Christian ichthys sign that stands for both fish and woman. Now, exactly in the circle formed by the Monas Hieroglypica stands a statue of a woman holding a fish. The woman looks straight down the ley line; the fish is looking due south, right at another Hawksmoor church across the river [St. Alphege’s in Greenwich].

One of the deepest locations under water is the Hebrides Trench. It is between Vanuatu and New Caledonia’s islands. Its deepest point is over 25,000 feet (7,600 meters). Who knows what’s down there? 10) The Megalithic Ruins of AlgeriaRadford, Benjamin. "The Lore and Lure of Ley Lines." Live Science. Nov. 19, 2013. Again, ideas such as this originated much later than Watkins’ original book, but are certainly the overall perception of the phenomenon today. And if you extend it thousands of miles further north, it passes through the area, now in Canada, where the British were looking for the Northwest Passage. At that time, finding that fabled waterway to Asia was more important to them than actual colonization. Crumbling abbey and castle ruins, historical market towns and churches all lie along the banks of the county’s idyllic River Wye, which breaks up into picturesque springs and streams that run into unspoiled valleys and ancient woodland. Expeditions to both the north and south poles are dangerous ventures. Temperature and unpredictable weather make vile vortices responsible for many lost lives. 5) Karachi

Mathematics and geometry are subjects that intrigue many people. Geometry, in particular, is interesting because we can see it in action when we put sand on a flat surface. We vibrate the surface, and a shape appears in the sand. As we change the frequency of the vibration, different geometric shapes appear. Part of the popularity of ley hunting was that individuals without any form of professional training in archaeology could take part and feel that they could rediscover "the magical landscapes of the past". [31] Ley hunting welcomed those who had "a strong interest in the past but feel excluded from the narrow confines of orthodox academia". [32] The ley hunting movement often blended their activities with other esoteric practices, such as numerology and dowsing. [33] The movement had a diverse base, consisting of individuals from different classes and of different political opinions: it contained adherents of both radical left and radical right ideologies. [34] Ley hunters often differed on how they understood the ley lines; some believed that leys only marked a pre-existing energy current, whereas others thought that the leys helped to control and direct this energy. [35] They were nevertheless generally in agreement that the ley lines were laid out between 5000 BCE and 2600 BCE, after the introduction of agriculture but before the introduction of metal in Britain. [36] For many ley hunters, this Neolithic period was seen as a golden age in which Britons lived in harmony with the natural environment. [35]Kendall, David G. (May 1989). The idea now more than before is that these ley lines link up under the entire world. They represent ancient points of great energy, placed by a culture we no longer remember. This area is known for the disappearance of ships and planes and the sighting of unidentified flying objects. 2) Easter Island Living on the outskirts of Winchester, the ancient capital of Wessex and England, I was well placed for this new hobby. There were ample tumuli, old churches, and earthworks to explore, but finding alignments wasn’t easy. This was a long time before the Web, Google Earth, and apps that make it easy to be an armchair explorer.
