About this deal

Needed weekend accommodation in centre of Ashbourne & this was perfect for our needs - spacious, clean & comfortable." Very spacious and well maintained. Fantastic location. Great for walking, cycling and visiting the peaks. Owner was very accommodating and great communication with answering our questions. Shame there wasn't a brush to sweep floors or a washing line to hang out washing rather than using the tumble drier. Great week away had by my family and so lovely we booked to return whilst still on holiday! Steeped in history, being over 400 years old, the property benefits from modern spacious living accommodation which has been fully modernised by the current owners. The Lion House by Christopher de Bellaigue is a unique book about the European powers vs. Suleiman the Magnificent. It covers a wide swath of material, from how Venetian politics worked, to how Suleiman rose to power, to the infamous pirate Barbarossa. In Suleyman’s case, it turns out, the laudatory label was richly deserved. Historians remember the Ottoman Empire’s tenth sultan for far more than the territorial gains he achieved, which were considerable. Because to his subjects he was known as Suleyman the Lawgiver. Like Napoleon three centuries later, he codified the laws of his empire into a single legal code that endured for more than three hundred years.

We were very comfortable and enjoyed the luxury of having so much space for just the two of us. If you want to be on Dartmoor then the location cannot be beaten, with walks from the door in all directions. Moretonhampstead has everything you need for a week's stay, including a choice of good places to eat.We enjoyed cooking and sharing meals in the large kitchen, dining area. We were fortunate to have some lovely weather so we could also enjoy the garden. Everyone had their favourite downstairs areas that they relaxed in during the evening. The only negative for me is the heavy traffic at night on the road outside, as I prefer to keep a window open rather than using the fan provided. Other wise this is the perfect holiday property to enjoy and explore Ashbourne and the Peak District. A lovely, spacious, comfortable house in a great central position, and we really enjoyed being there." I received an ARC of this audiobook by the publisher via Netgalley in an exchange for an honest review. While Ibrahim is sponging off of Suleyman, Alvise Gritti, the bastard son of the Venetian Doge, has his sights set on Ibrahim. This look at the Venetians' inside access to Suleyman's most trusted advisor briefly gives hope to the medieval maritime empire that increasingly found itself squeezed between Spanish and Ottoman expansion. The fact that Suleyman focused so many of his energies on Vienna and Persia, when Venice and southern Italy were more feasable targets testifies to the true loyalties of these two men with origins in Venetian lands. The Lion House: the Coming of a King’ is non-fiction so well done that you might just think you’re reading a deeply intriguing historical drama. While dense and thorough, Christopher de Bellaigue’s account of Suleiman the Magnificent’s incredible vie to become Sovereign of the World versus the Holy Roman Empire of the 16th century, it is so much more than that.

Enjoy a bit of alfresco dining on the beautiful dining table outside the kitchen or perhaps a morning coffee and croissant from the nearby bakery on one of the elevated terraces.

All in all one of the best holidays we have had. Hope to make Lion House our home from home again in the future. Gibberd architectswere appointed by DEFRA from theintial design stage through to planning, the practice then undertook interior design services for the building. The brief for this scheme was to create a building which was an exemplary precedent for sustainability within the UK. This was a key driver for the client who is a key public figure in environmental policy. Carpets a bit tired but that does not effect you stay its cosy and comfortable. In a good area for walking and visiting the local area. The local people are friendly and helpful. Ther were no problems parking as we were allocated private parking. Key safe easy to find.i took my mum there for her 80 birthday present she loved it she said it was amazing. There is so much to do all within about an hours drive. It was so hot when we were there we hit the beaches. Our favourite was South Milton Sands but Shaldon (Ness Cove) came a close second.

Moretonhampstead is a charming place, a real community, and we had some lovely walks. Michael was very helpful (especially when we temporarily lost the key!). We were grateful for the parking permit. We have only a couple of details to comment on. The fridge was missing its door shelves, which meant, for example, that one had to put milk in the vegetable drawer; we were rather short of space. The arrangement in the single bedroom, with no bedside table or light anywhere near, was inconvenient. Considered detailing lends a qualitatively haptic feel to the finish, down to sapele timber flooring and handrails to the balconies In the meantime, as the 40 unsold properties in Centre Point Residences join the other 20,000 long-term empty homes in London, the more immediate question is what will the citizens of London do to house its 1,000 rough sleepers on our streets, the 165,000 Londoners that are homeless and living in hostels or temporary accommodation, the 225,000 hidden homeless that are sleeping on London couches, and the 244,000 Londoners on council housing waiting lists? The housing crisis is, first and foremost, a political crisis in which our current democratic institutions of Council, Greater London Authority, Parliament and Government are all failing us. Centre Point Residences is the proof of that.
