There was plenty for two (in fact I had seconds the next day). The meat was soft and succulent and we served it with a hefty red wine to make it a real celebration. There are a meat and vegetarian three course meals on offer, both for two to share. We chose the meat one. The starter and dessert need little preparation, but the main course needs cooking. But, very helpfully, everything was labelled and there was a handy set of instructions to guide you through the meal – it made sure that we could eat the starter without worrying about the oven.Owner Etta is possibly the only restaurateur in Brixton who can say she has been a local resident for more than 40 years. With the help of friends and family, Etta’s Seafood Kitchen has grown organically since it launched via Brixton’s ‘empty shops project’ in 2011. This is the place to head to for celebrations and gatherings with a family feel. Menu highlights include saltfish fritters with spicy dipping sauce, scallop salad with lime dressing, sweet potato and pumpkin curry, and fish soup with vermicelli noodles. Chishuru, London: ‘Show it some love’ – restaurant review

Friends of Brixton Market campaign to save Brixton Village Archived 31 January 2009 at archive.today Danclair’s is the newest opening from Brian Danclair, founder of much-loved Brixton Village stalwart Fish, Wings & Tings. Inspired by the hospitality of his grandmother Valentina, Danclair’s serves family dishes at a long sharing table in the centre of the restaurant, allowing for a convivial dining experience. The menu draws inspiration from across the Caribbean, Latin America and Europe, with dishes including BBQ pork ribs, empanadas with raisins and olives, and marinated grilled king prawns with tamarind sauce – alongside a weekend brunch. The cauliflower was well cooked and the spiced green sauce is what it said on the menu – spicy – and the peanut sauce added to the thrill. We didn’t need the puffed rice.Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special. The IWSC 2022 was a bumper year for entries, with more than 4,000 spirits from over 90 countries (rum entries were up 23% from last year). The 85 judges are world-renowned experts from across the global spirits sector; a mix of buyers, importers, distributors and leading distillers. The competition runs a rigorous tasting process using a ‘double-blind’ method, which means samples are tasted in pre-poured numbered glasses to ensure the judges never see a bottle. Paul Bakalite's proposal for Listing was strongly supported by the Twentieth Century Society. In April 2010 the Secretary of State of the Department of Culture (DCMS) announced that the government had overturned its previous decision not award heritage protection to these three arcades and declared all three Grade II listed buildings. They were listed by virtue of their cultural importance and contribution to the social and economic history of Brixton, particularly since the 1950s as one of the principal hearts of the Afro-Caribbean community in London, as well as for their architectural importance since such arcades, once more common, are now rare. IWSC medals are globally recognised as a mark of outstanding quality, signalling winning spirits as one of the best in the world,” says Christelle Guibert, CEO Fine Wines & Spirits at the IWSC. “Achieving an IWSC award isn’t easy, but that’s what makes the medal so well respected,” she adds. Despite Hondo claiming to be a ‘ small bunch of industry outsiders,’ here’s the kind of money that they deal in:

We finished the meal with a dessert to share – peanut butter ice cream with baobab crisps. We immediately dived in so no photo. The salty creaminess of the ice cream went really well with the surprisingly citrus flavoured honeycomb crisps. In the middle of Brixton Village, this tiny Japanese eatery specialises in Osaka street food such as yaki soba, yaki udon and okonomiyaki pancakes. It’s a busy place, but you can usually beat the queues if you swing by around lunchtime or mid-afternoon. Be sure to try the okonomiyaki, served with prawns, squid kimchi and sweetcorn – it’s authentic and delicious.
