My Pet Star is told in rhyme and the words are like a big, warm hug. It is a beautiful book about being kind and when the time comes, letting something go. The girl knows that the star will eventually have to return to the sky, but when it does it doesn’t disappear from her life as it shines down from the sky watching over her.Once you’ve finished reading the book,why not continue the story with these colourful shadow puppets and make your own adventures? Rosalind Beardshaw has always enjoyed drawing and her favourite subject at school was art. She worked on many books including her own book Grandma’s Beach and others she has illustrated for including the Lulu series which my girls and I think is great. I have previously reviewed Lulus Pet Cat.

If you can, sneak a little look at it first without your child so you can familiarise yourself with the story and rhythm. Draw your characters on to a piece of cardboard. You could draw a Pet Star, other night-themed characters, or anything you want to take part in your story. Ik hou van sterren, ik hou van prentenboeken. Ik weet niet of het komt door het prachtige, op rijm geschreven (klinkt als een slecht idee, is het ook quasi altijd maar hier helemaal niet), verhaal van Corinne of door de grappige, tedere tekeningen van Rosalind. Waarschijnlijk zit het hem in de combinatie.
