About this deal

If you have a dual fuel system or a whole-home humidifier/dehumidifier, it is strongly recommended that you choose professional installation. The Learning Thermostat comes with a trim plate included in the box. This is often needed if the Nest is smaller than the thermostat it is replacing and is used to hide the hole left by the old device. Nest’s marketing images usually show the thermostat neatly mounted directly to the wall, but in most cases, you’ll have to use the trim kit to hide the mess created by the removal of the old thermostat.

WARNING:Attempting to connect parts from different Nest thermostat models may damage your thermostat as well as your system. But there are two major differences. The first is in the name of the Nest Learning Thermostat – it learns your temperature preferences, then starts to make small changes automatically in a bid to keep you comfortable, but while using less energy. This could mean lowering the heating by a degree, or running the air conditioning slightly less often; both of these could go unnoticed, but will consume less energy and lower your bills. Nest Thermostat works with most 24 V heating and cooling systems, including furnaces, air conditioners, boilers and heat pumps with either forced-air or radiant delivery. The 3rd genNest Learning Thermostat’s stainless steel ring can also be in different colors. If you have a thermostat ring that looks likeone of these, you have a 3rd gen Nest LearningThermostat. Heating and cooling:1 stage of heating (W1) and cooling (Y1) and a second stage of either heating (W2) or cooling (Y2).Both models of smart thermostat automatically turn down when you leave home, based on the location of your smartphone, and they can be controlled from anywhere via the Google Home app. Some systems, including heating-only, cooling-only, zone-controlled, and heat pump systems, require a C wire or the Nest Power Connector. Go to g.co/nest/cwire for details.

The Nest Learning Thermostat is designed to work even if your home doesn't have a commonCwire, but installing a newCwire or the Nest Power Connectormay be required in some cases. The Nest Learning Thermostat E is designed to work even if your home doesn't have a common C wire, but installation ofa new C wire or the Nest Power Connectormay be required in rare cases.Heating and Cooling: one stage of heating (W1) and cooling (Y1) and a second stage of either heating (W2)or cooling (Y2). Some countries (such as the UK, France, and The Netherlands) use high voltage wiring for thermostats while others (such as the US and Canada) use low voltage wiring. High voltage and low voltage thermostat parts are not compatible with each other, and should not be used together.

Some countries use high-voltage wiring for thermostats while others (such as the US and Canada) use low-voltage wiring. Nest designed different thermostats for high- and low-voltage system wiring. High-voltage and low-voltage Nest thermostat parts are not compatible. Polished steel is a high-end, highly polished design for those who like to keep things timeless and classy. The display connector on the thermostat base is different for all 3 generations of the Nest Learning Thermostat. In addition, the connectors for the system wires are different between thermostat models.

To get a custom wiring diagram for installation, simply follow Nest app’s thermostat installation instructions. The Nest Learning Thermostat is designed to work even if your home doesn't have a commonCwire, but installing a newCwire may be required in rare cases. The display of the Learning Thermostat has a feature called Farsight, which senses your presence and turns the screen on, conveniently showing the current and target temperature (or the local weather) when you walk by.

The cheaper Nest Thermostat does not do this, and instead relies on you creating a schedule for it to follow, or adjusting the temperature manually. As long as the thermostat base is from the same model, generation, and country/region as the thermostat display, you can swap bases and displays. Thermostats are often placed in a cool part of the home, such as the hallway. This can cause the heating to come on more frequently than is required in warmer rooms like the kitchen. Place a temperature sensor in the kitchen, for example, and the thermostat will know not to come on when the room is already warm from your evening cooking. They can program themselves to create a personalized schedule and turn down automatically to save energy when you’re away. You can control your thermostat from a phone, tablet, Google Home Hub or even an Android Watch or Apple Watch with the Nest or Google Home app. And, you can use your smart speaker or display to change the temperature with your voice—just say, “Hey Google, set the temperature to 68.” The app will show you how to install your thermostat. It will ask you some questions about your thermostat wires. Answer them as accurately as possible.
