Bigger Dwarves and larger hamsters seem to do fine on acrylic wheels.Many people like cork linings because they are more gentle on their hamster’s feet. Cork linings can be more difficult to do thorough cleans of but it is not impossible! I wash with soap and water and let dry. I replace the cork lining as needed (and thankfully, Niteangel does sell cork replacements!) The second concern about your hamster flying off is a legitimate concern. Some hamsters seem to be well equipped to use this saucer without risk, others are not. I don’t give this saucer to my hyper-speed robo, Steven, anymore, since he has no control over himself on it. But my other robo, Sofia, does great on it and I’ve never seen her fall. Pros: May be good for attaching to a wire cage. Comes in a few sizes that are good for dwarf and Roborovski hamsters. Lightweight and easy for any size or age hamster to push. Comes in clear or mostly neutral coloring.

The Prevue Quiet Wheel has some definite pros- including it’s wide running area that’s very light and easy to push. This wheel would be good for a hamster at any age and strength!

Due to the popularity of this wheel it is sometimes sold out in certain sizes and colors. If you see the one you want, I suggest getting it! This wheel is widely available in pet stores across the US and is widely used for hamsters and other rodents. All that being said, I would not recommend this saucer style wheel as a replacement for an upright wheel. While many hamsters enjoy using this, I find, when I give them both the saucer and the upright wheel, they primarily use the upright wheel, but they seem to enjoy the variety of the saucer once in a while.
