Newly-married Joss Stone is emotional as she takes a bow at the premiere of her new musical The Time Traveller's Wife - after show left critics divided The moment I heard this book had a connection with the Titanic, I was easily convinced to read it. For years I have found the story of the Titanic fascinating, so it's obvious that my favourite part was onboard the ship. I found Margaret's story a bit slow, but I think it was because of my level of excitement about the part onboard the ship. The ship itself has a small part in the story, the main focus is on the story leading up to the boys being on the ship and their life after the sinking. I enjoyed the historical research by Fidelis Morgan and found it really interesting. If you have a love for the Titanic (like me) or you enjoy Historical Fiction, then this book needs to be on your TBR. Orphans of the Storm, Celia Imrie - Blogger Book Review: Orphans of the Storm, Celia Imrie - Blogger

We can gather from the title that Lolo and Monmon were onboard the RMS Titanic and was orphaned by the sinking of the majestic ship. I don't want to give away too many details about the time spent onboard the RMS Titanic, but what I can say is this is where Margaret Bechstein crosses the paths of Lolo and Monmon. Through her selfless act, the toddlers were given a second chance. Told from Marcella, Michael and Margaret's POV, the reader is swept up in the toxic marriage of Michael and Marcella, caught up in the exhilarating boarding of the Titanic and left desolate after the vivid descriptions of the ship descending into the darkness leaving two small boys to the fate of strangers. In this case, a stranger who only had their best interests at heart. Orphans of the Storm is a beautiful story following the lives of 3 people, Marcella, Michel and Margaret. It follows the journey of their lives centered around 2 young boys "Lolo" and "Monmon". My daughter was in night nappies when she started going to school and I WON'T apologise for it - no one... Research was obviously thorough. The frivolity, extravagance and luxury are vividly portrayed. Fast forward to the disaster about which we all know. From the minute the lifeboats are launched, the story becomes much more poignant and emotions are laid bare. There is the kindness of some and the selfishness of others – perhaps to be expected in any situation involving a group of human beings. Long fearful nights, floating on dark seas are made worse by the images of the flotsam and jetsam drifting by: ‘a long white satin glove ... a slipper ... a dead baby’. Imrie does not dwell on the horror for too long but it is subtly laid out before us. Robbie Williams reveals he once 'slashed his wrists' in a bid to end his life and didn't sleep for 144 HOURS during battle with drink and drugs Imrie’s portrayal of Mary Hays, Margaret’s mother, perfectly captures the upper class’s snobbish attitude toward immigrants, specifically those from Eastern Europe. When the boys are mistaken as Polish, Margaret herself recalls that Poles in New York are regarded as “the lowest of the low.” Mary Hays perpetuates these classist attitudes when she and Margaret embark on a shopping adventure in pursuit of new clothes for the boys: “We can’t have them wandering around here looking like two little Ellis Island immigrants straight from the potato fields of Romania.” Fast forward 110 years into the 21st century, and readers see these same attitudes still persisting not only in many European countries where specifically Ukrainians are stigmatized, but also in the United States in regards to other races and ethnicities.
