About this deal

Sound and Movement: Alex Parson’s original music and sound effects are provided for your use. It is clearly marked in the script where to use the music or sound cues; however, feel free to add your own spin on things or incorporate the pupils’ own live sound effects. Choose this script if you have several strong students keen for speaking roles and a creative group of young people that want to explore staging and transitioning between multiple locations. The play introduces them to a world in the not too distant future and really gets them thinking about the choices they make about food. We've worked with groups on themes as diverse as Transition, Careers, Literacy & Numeracy, Racism, Mining Communities and Bullying, to name but a few!

Setting and Style: Open to interpretation but there are stage directions within the play to help support a ‘in the round’ production using the students to define the stage space. The dialogue is very naturalistic and dramatic in terms of the way it builds and there are a lot of lines for the two main male roles. There is also the opportunity for the students to provide their own live sound to compliment the piece. Theatre of Debate was commissioned by the Wellcome Trust Crunch project to create five play in day scripts and resources for primary schools. The future of food is one of the biggest challenges on our plate. Food and drink are fundamental to our lives, connecting everything from our health to the world around us. It’s time for us to take a fresh look at our relationship with food and be inspired to create the recipe for a happier, healthier future. Yes, Play in a Day® is very popular in secondary schools! Our Anti-Bullying, transition and Internet Safety titles are most popular along with our Shakespeare and History workshops that are often booked to aid GCSE revision. Yes, we like to give the opportunity for the group to share their work with the whole school community and parents are very welcome too! Some schools book Play in a Day® to support work in the classroom, whilst other schools book it for its pastoral benefits and to build on Speaking and Listening strategies. If you do want a specific theme for the day to tie in with the children's work, please advise our office well in advance of our visit.

Casting: 8 key lead roles representing modern day teenagers and those in the future with approx 5 or 6 supporting roles that can be adapted. All students can be involved in the performance through sound scaping and physical theatre. Play in a Week is a popular extension to our Play in a Day® and offers groups the opportunity to devise, rehearse and perform a play under the guidance of one of our Writers / Directors. One of our facilitators would work with a group of 35 pupils throughout the day, using different drama techniques and exercises. The day accumulates in the pupils sharing a short performance to an audience of their choice. This performance will showcase what they have learnt throughout the day and show the remarkable confidence this workshop brings. Focus: Obesogenic Environment – Environments that encourage people to eat unhealthily and not do enough exercise. a b c d e f g "Influential guitarist Bert Weedon dies". BBC News. 19 April 2012 . If, however, you are less concerned with the subject matter of the play, we suggest you leave it to our Director to choose on the day once they have had an opportunity to meet the group. Throughout the week the group create the drama; develop characters, discuss and devise scenes to build their play for a performance on the final afternoon. This process is designed to develop writing, drama and improvisation skills and teamwork. The workshops proved to be an effective way of enabling us as a County Council, working in partnership with Veolia, to deliver the ‘Reduce, Reuse and Recycle’ message to the schools. Using this creative delivery method there was great potential to spread the message not only to the children involved in the workshop, but also to their peers watching. We are confident the messages learned will be passed on to the parents at home too. Married to Maggie Weedon, he had two sons, Lionel and Geoffrey, eight grandchildren, and a great-grandson. [3] As a Water Rat, Weedon was highly active in charity work and fundraising, especially for children and disabled people, and was elected King Rat in 1992. [3] He was awarded an OBE in 2001 for his services to music. [1] Weedon died on 20 April 2012, following a long illness.

Lifestyle

The way in which Play in a Day is designed allows for everyone’s voice to be heard. All pupils will be involved in their own way and will be encouraged to share their talents and work as a group to support each other. Theatre of Debate was commissioned by the Wellcome Trust Crunch project to create five play in day scripts and resources for secondary schools. The future of food is one of the biggest challenges on our plate. Food and drink are fundamental to our lives, connecting everything from our health to the world around us. It’s time for us to take a fresh look at our relationship with food and be inspired to create the recipe for a happier, healthier future. Choose this script if you have ‘strong’ actors that can carry the play and a group of creative students who would benefit from working as an ensemble to present a piece of theatre. The play explores undernutrition and over-nutrition and contains a lot of information to spark discussion and split opinion. Betts, Graham (2004). Complete UK Hit Singles 1952-2004 (1sted.). Casting: 8 larger speaking roles, 1 female lead who is telling her story. Several other supporting roles with speaking parts and enough parts for up to 30 students as part of an ensemble that plays school students, people at the summer fayre etc. The workshop leader demonstrated enthusiasm and commitment to the pupils at all times, she was attentive and flexible in her approach leading the children in a friendly and professional manner. All pupils were listened to and suggestions made were used effectively, allowing pupils to take ownership of the production and be in control of their own work. Very recently Play in a Week has been the focus point for many school transition and Summer School projects. Working with a number of pupils from each feeder primary school, Play in a Week is a fantastic opportunity for children to come together to meet each other, share ideas and then work together to create their very own play. The final play often takes place in the secondary school where the children will start their new schooling life together. Director’s Notes which include learning outcomes, links to the curriculum, more in-depth information about the theme of your chosen play, along with hints and tips on how stage the play for a workshop performance.
