About this deal

The goal of a whiskey mule is to have the bourbon add something to the drink besides the alcohol content — something to hold its own against the ginger beer, in a complementary way. Iin this case, there might be a bit of that smooth wheat taste in the mix, but otherwise there’s nothing peeking through the ginger beer to make itself known. For most of its existence, Luxco was a non-distillery producer — or NDP — which meant they did not own a distillery. Rebel Yell whiskey was mashed, distilled and barreled at another facility. Barrels were most likely transferred to the Luxco facility, where they were bottled and shipped to market. In 2018 Luxco, opened their own distillery in Bardstown just down the road from Heaven Hill dubbed Lux Row Distillers. The root beer whiskey option is one of the newest options created by Rebel which combines flavors of root beer and genuine bourbon for a delightful drink. This option has a 70-proof rating and an alcohol content rating of 35% alcohol by volume. It has flavors and tastes of sugar and caramel which add to the main root beer flavor that you experience while drinking this selection. This blend is a very unique selection that gives you a robust flavor profile all throughout the bottle. Regardless of what your preferences are, you’ll likely be able to find the right fit in a Rebel Yell variety because they come in six distinct flavors and mash types. So in essence, this bourbon is for anyone who enjoys a variety of different flavors and taste profiles when it comes to whiskey. More particularly, their bourbons are designed for varying levels of consumers from those who want affordable alcohol to those that are interested in higher quality options. So all-around, this brand is for a rather broad audience as opposed to other companies who distill very distinct bourbon flavors and types that are aimed at a very targeted audience.

The difference between this and the standard Rebel Yell is instantly noticeable. The Aroma reminds me, a bit, of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in the way the peanuts and dark fruit come together; Palate does the same but in an oakier way, like a barrel-aged PB&J; Finish is similar to the palate but with a bit of toffee for dessert. I’m enjoying this more than I thought I would. Recently, the brand dropped the word ‘Yell’ from the name, which means that you may currently find bottles with either ‘Rebel Yell’ or ‘Rebel Bourbon’ on shelves. In addition to the flagship Rebel Bourbon, there are multiple line extensions to the Rebel Yell bourbon family.Reviewing Teeling 24 Years Old: Teeling Whiskey released this 33-year-old expression last year, which is said to be the “oldest bottling of Irish Single Malt ever released”. If you’re a fan of Irish whiskey, this one is definitely worth trying. In 2018, Luxco opened its own distillery named Lux Row in honor of the long tree-lined drive that leads to the facility. In January 2021, Luxco was acquired by Midwest Grain Processors — MGP — the country’s largest third-party producer of sourced whiskey products.

Note: Luxco recently changed the brand’s name from ‘Rebel Yell’ Bourbon to ‘Rebel’ Bourbon. This change is still being implemented on retail shelves. So, to prevent further confusion as to whether these are the same brand, we’ve used the name interchangeably throughout this post. Maker's Mark, a well-known wheated bourbon developed from a recipe influenced by Pappy Van Winkle of Stitzel-WellerIf you’re looking for a high-quality bourbon, Rebel Yell definitely has many different options for you to choose from meaning that you’re bound to find the right fit. After tasting many of these selections and analyzing their price point, we’ve come to the conclusion that this brand is definitely worth a taste for anyone who needs a cold drink.
