About this deal

Mallory also thinks cordless vacuums are useful when it comes to cleaning “trouble areas, like stairs, but they might not do as thorough of a job as a plug-in vacuum cleaner would. Since they’re made to be compact, cordless vacuum cleaners usually have less suction power and limited battery life.” Should you buy the Shark Vertex Pro Cordless Vacuum? The model names differ between territories too, with monikers such as Rotator, Vertex, and Apex given to models on sale in the US, and far less interesting number and letter combinations such as NV801 used to distinguish designs in the UK. In Australia, you’ll find a combination of both naming conventions.

We cleaned our floorboards with the duster brush tool, and when we needed to get into tight corners we changed the brush Tool into a crevice tool. The vacuum was light enough to use the crevice tool to clean the corners of our 10-foot ceilings and atop door frames. We were excited to use the Anti-Allergen Dusting Brush on our window blinds as they get very dusty if, however, it didn’t clean the blinds as well as we’d hoped. It's a versatile cleaner that can be operated in one of several configurations, depending on what surface you're cleaning. Floors are cleaned easily in the upright vacuum cleaner mode. From here, you can detach the wand, or just the handle for a speedy transition to overhead or above floor cleaning while the vacuum pod remains attached to the floorhead. Now the negative part... and it all has to do with shark customer support and product support in general. When vacuuming exclusively in boost mode, that battery lasted for just 11.5 minutes, so it’s best to utilize all the suction levels to prolong the battery during use. And though the selection of tools is useful, we’d have preferred if the US model was supplied with the mini motorized pet tool that comes with this vacuum if you buy it in the UK. Shark Vertex Pro Cordless Vacuum: Care and maintenance The entry-level vacuums are less powerful and with smaller dust canisters, while as you move through the range the suction improves, as does the capacity and you’ll see the addition of handy tech that ensures the vacuum cleaner can be converted in handheld mode or stops hair getting tangled around the brush bar.Mallory Micetich, Home Expert at Angi, told us that “cordless vacuums are a great option for daily maintenance and have become popular thanks to their ease of use, distance range and more modern designs. Most are upright, making them easy to store and newer models have multi-functional configurations so you can easily switch from surface to surface.” While most people comment that “the battery lasts a long time” some would prefer if it was supplied with a second battery. Many people also note the frustration that the tools aren’t stored on the vacuum and some wish it came with a better selection of tools. Shark Vertex Pro Cordless Vacuum: What the experts say Since 2018, Dyson has been focussing on cordless vacuums, and while the brand does offer a handful of corded upright vacuums and in the US and Australia, canister-style floor cleaners (often referred to as cylinder vacuums or barrel vacuums), its biggest range of floor cleaners are wire-free.

It weighs 6.2kg / 12.4 pounds which is acceptable especially given that it’s bottom-heavy. It also disassembles, so when cleaning high places, the majority of the weight doesn’t need lifting overhead as it can be carried in your other hand. Thanks to the self-cleaning dual brushroll, hair never wrapped around the brush. The 0.72qt / 0.68L dust cup is large enough to hold quite a bit of dust and debris – we didn’t manage to fill it even after vacuuming our entire house three times. Both filters will need replacing after 2.5-3 years of use. All the filters are easy to access for cleaning and replacement. As we previously said, it comes with a range of useful attachments which differ slightly between the US and UK models. The UK model comes with a crevice tool, dusting brush, wide upholstery tool, and motorized pet tool. The US model comes with a crevice tool, pet multi-tool, and an anti-allergen dusting brush. When compared to a budget vacuum like the Aspiron Cordless Vacuum , the Shark starts to look like an expensive option. However, it comes with the Shark vacuum pedigree and it offers more accessories as well as better design and functionality. When cleaning floors, the bottom-heavy design means the vacuum feels lightweight and maneuvers well around tight corners. That does mean that it’s bulky at the base, which stops it from reaching very far under low furniture. But by lifting the pod from the wand and holding it one hand, you remove the bulk and in this mode it has excellent reach under low furniture. There are three power levels; Eco, Deep Clean, and Boost. These are controlled easily via the controls on the handle and this is also where the vacuum can be switched between carpet and hard floor modes. Additionally, the LCD screen displays the percentage of charge left in the battery so you can see at a glance when it needs a recharge.

The best corded Shark vacuum we've tested is the Shark APEX Upright. It feels more sturdily built than the Dyson Ball Animal 3, as well as cheaper upright models in Shark's lineup. It also delivers stellar performance on bare floors and does a pretty good job on low and high-pile carpets. However, for raw suction power, it falls short of the Dyson. Its floorhead is more tangle-prone, and unlike the Dyson, it isn't height-adjustable, which would make it easier to clean shaggier carpeting. Emptying the dust cup on any vacuum isn’t exactly fun and that’s why it’s important to consider the size of the dust bin on a new vacuum cleaner. Dyson cordless vacuums take the trophy here with bigger dust cups (the Dyson Outsize Absolute has a capacity of 0.5 gallons, whereas the Shark Pet Plus holds up to 0.085 gallons of dust and dirt. Having the pod in one hand while cleaning overhead with the other makes it far more comfortable than we’ve experienced with many other cordless vacuums. Though when we used it for very high cleaning, the wand did start to feel heavy after prolonged use. Having said that, you can use it without the wand for areas that are easier to reach.Disassembling the vacuum to use it in the powered lift-away mode is really simple, though we’d have preferred if the small tools were stored on board the vacuum for easy access. Nevertheless, the ability to use it in so many different configurations is very convenient. To empty the 0.72qt / 0.68L dust cup, which is fitted with a seal to prevent dust and allergens escaping into the air, you detach the main unit from the wand, and release a catch on the cup to deposit the contents into a bin. Some of Dyson’s latest vacuums, such as the V15 Detect and the V11, will also automatically adjust the suction power to suit the floor type they’re being used on too - something Shark’s model can’t offer. If you struggle to clean overhead with heavy cordless vacuums, the Shark Vertex Pro Cordless Vacuum one is a good option thanks to the powered-lift away function that means you don’t need to hold the main part of the vacuum up high.

The only time we got close to running down the battery was when we vacuumed the whole house on Clean Sense IQ mode, and then followed it up by using the Anti-Allergen Dusting Brush to clean the dust off four large window blinds, before using the duster crevice tool to clean floorboards in two rooms; even then we still had 20% left in the tank. The main vacuum pod becomes portable in what Shark calls "powered lift-away mode". This allows you to carry the pod in one hand while using any combination of the tools, wand, or even the main floorhead. It means that for overhead cleaning, you don't have to hold the bulk of the vacuum above your head while you clean. And when cleaning other surfaces such as sofas, you can rest it on the seat while you vacuum, making it a much easier task. Shark Vertex Pro Cordless Vacuum: Setup and assemblyIf you'd like to see a rundown of all the cordless models offered by Shark and Dyson, see the table linked here. Dyson vs Shark: Corded Vacuums So just how much will you have to spend on a powerful vacuum cleaner? Dyson’s range is more expensive than Shark’s, but they are lighter, more compact and as we’ve mentioned loaded with smarts that ensure a thorough clean, which in our eyes makes them worth the extra investment. Several replacement parts for the vacuum are available to buy from Shark, enabling you to prolong the life if anything breaks. Furthermore, the lengthy 5-year warranty covers manufacturing faults if you buy it from an authorized retailer. Shark Vertex Pro Cordless Vacuum: Price and availability
