Chiles plays the double bass, as revealed when he dueted with violinist Nigel Kennedy playing "Fever" on The One Show. Mayall appeared during Edmondson's winning performance of The Dying Swan on BBC One's Let's Dance for Comic Relief on 5 March 2011, and in September 2011, Edmondson appeared on the Sunday morning cooking show Something for the Weekend and told presenter Tim Lovejoy that he and Rik Mayall were planning to reunite and make another series of Bottom, set in an old people's home.

The Good Drinker by Adrian Chiles | Goodreads

A third complained over Adrian’s long answers: “What the hell is Adrian Chiles on about… they only asked what your first drink was. For two episodes of this he created the spoof heavy metal band Bad News, and for another he played his nihilistic alter-ego Eddie Monsoon, an offensive South African television star. In his early career at the BBC, Chiles became an assistant producer and, by 1993, was presenting Radio 4's Financial World Tonight. Adrian Chiles has consumed absolutely eye watering, Churchillian quantities of alcohol throughout his life.

I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in reducing the amount they drink without cutting it out completely. It is important that we continue to promote these adverts as our local businesses need as much support as possible during these challenging times. On the first day I’d gone to the football, then to a party, and didn’t feel particularly drunk and it didn’t feel like a big drinking day but I’d done 36 units. We know a third of the people coming into the unit with alcohol-related liver damage do not meet the criteria for alcoholism,” says David Nutt, the renowned neuropsychopharmacologist (“not easy to say after a unit or two”). The book included a lot of interesting ways of framing your relationship with alcohol, and lots of it resonated with me, in the sense that I enjoy a drink but am also apprehensive of the long term health effects.

As someone who enjoyed Chiles' 2018 documentary Dry January after a rather Wet December has been the sort of moderate conversation I've always really wanted to have with someone. An outtake on YouTube was the only footage available to the public, until all episodes were uploaded to the site in 2019. If you boil it down to drinks you enjoy, you will enjoy your drinking more; there’s no doubt of that in my mind. The second of four children, Adrian Charles Edmondson was born on 24 January 1957 in Bradford, West Riding of Yorkshire to Dorothy Eileen Sturgeon (born 1930) and Fred Edmondson (1929–2014). Whilst I'm sure for a lot of people abstinence is the only way, cutting down and being more thoughtful about my drinking of wine works for me.Drinking 100s of units a week, he says, meant facing "some pretty dire consequences with my innards". I would highly recommend this to anyone, and especially those looking to cut back or think about their own drinking in a new and perhaps healthier light. We want our comments to be a lively and valuable part of our community - a place where readers can debate and engage with the most important local issues. Edmondson appeared regularly as Brendan Baxter in Series 4 of the BBC mystery series Jonathan Creek, broadcast in 2003–2004. At the conclusion of the second session he said, as I remember it, that he thought I probably had ADD – that’s ADHD minus the hyperactivity bit – but the medication might conflict with the stuff I take for hypertension, so it would need some thought.

How I learnt to drink less and enjoy it more — by Adrian Chiles

By the time he was in sixth form, with his parents working abroad, Edmondson began to enjoy himself, "which involved lots of drinking and smoking and petty acts of vandalism. Have to say, this was a really well written and easy to follow read on Chiles' life with alcohol and how he kept it in his life without losing the ability to have it altogether. In 2013, Edmondson was crowned the winner of Celebrity Masterchef, and from 2019 to 2020, he appeared in the BBC soap opera EastEnders as Daniel Cook. Adrian never talks down to the reader and is very open about his shift in perspective when faced by medical advice to cut down (after being sure he wasn't doing much harm with his weekly units each week).

There was a clear thorough line of Chiles trying to find something that would resonate with "drinkers like me" in his journey and finding very little, so wrote this book. In 2015, Edmondson voiced Stanley the Dachshund in adverts for health and life insurance company Vitality. From November 2017 into 2018, Edmondson played the character of Malvolio in the Royal Shakespeare Company's production of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. While he does not conform with stereotypes of alcoholism, he certainly has/had/suffered/suffered it.
