The book combines insights from both Scott and his wife, Jenny, as they partner together on this challenge. I’ve done some really long runs in trainers before,” Anna tells us, as we jog out the centre of Edinburgh.

I picked up dozens of tiny little nicks and scrapes on my feet – I got used to those, but there was one show stopper at 1,000 miles in to the run. Right now, I’m having a bit of a reading kick and have been devouring outdoor adventure travel books like nobody’s business. Adventure has been a huuuuggeee part of my life for the past decade (scroll the pics to see I ain’t lyin’) and it always gives me the warm fuzzies to see others enjoying and exploring this rockin’ planet 🌎🤘🏻 Here’s the lowdown on the grant… “The Adventure Queens Grants help women take on a human-powered, boundary-pushing life-changing adventure by providing funding, kit and mentoring and the collective support of the thousands of women who make up the AQ community. She started working in marketing and, conditioned by structured training programmes and organised competition, did an Ironman, some ultra runs and the Swedish swimrun race Ötillö.Normally what’s causing anguish are all the things we think are going to happen rather than what’s actually happening. Being able to have a conversation while also simultaneously checking what’s under my feet, for example! In the end I set out to run the distance of 100 marathons and fell short of that, covering 90 instead.

I listened to this while hiking 150 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail, so it was interesting to hear her talk about foot issues - I was very grateful for my shoes 🤣 but go Anna! I have spoken to thousands of girls in all over the UK and my message has always been ‘be bold, be brave and be you. I’ve loved all of Anna McNuff’s books and this one took me on a whirlwind barefoot tour of the UK with her.Starting in the Shetland Islands and ending five months later in London, I weaved my way along rugged coastlines, through small villages, across moors, along beaches, over farmland and even pitter-pattered down the odd picturesque A-road too. I absolutely love reading Anna’s books… anytime I’m thinking an adventure I want to to is too crazy, I run accords one of her adventure books and realize I’m just barely scratching the surface of what I could do! She also encouraged the general public to run with her (in trainers) and was joined by over 2,500 runners during the course of the adventure. This hilarious travel adventure book follows Kristin Newman as she travels the world and meets men all over the world who offer her emotional connection without having to give up her freedom.

Fuelled by a desire to push mind and body to the limit (and to drink tea, and eat biscuits), she zigzagged over rugged coastlines, through small villages, across windswept moors, along golden sandy beaches and even down the odd picturesque A-road. She has been running five days a week, sometimes marathon distance, sometimes shorter, along a route that’s enabled her to inspire in person as many of the UK’s almost half a million Girl Guides as possible.

After all, do you really want to go out camping and find toilet paper or worse next to where the tents are supposed to go? The core things that came out were things like – they wanted to be planet protectors, they wanted to be change makers, and they want to be adventurers.

My first read of his was Moods of Future Joysfrom his adventure book series documenting cycling around the world. While I’ve yet to read it, My Midsummer Morning, where Alastair recreated the journey of Laurie Lee mentioned above, is sure to be another great read. They ascended over 100,000 metres on their journey, which is equivalent to 11 times the height of Everest. It’s funny, and heartwarming and will give you a better insight into America from the eyes of an outsider. With more and more people getting outside into the backcountry every year this has never been more important to read.
