I also feel that this book is not a “gripping thriller” as advertised, I cannot say I got thriller at all from this one. Speaking of characters I found myself yelling at Bettina but she just would not listen and falls for Dan’s con! While initially he had "the contents and the course of" The Rescue clear in his mind, he had doubts about his ability to effectively execute the story. The letter goes on to describe the arrival of Sherif Daman, who also wants the arms for the recapture of Wajo. Her Diet Coke sat between the emergency brake and the driver's seat, and though she knew it wasn't good for her, she finished the last of it and immediately wished she'd bought another.Back on the brig, Lingard reads a letter he has received from Jorgenson describing disquiet amongst the natives who want to attack the stranded yacht. I don’t know how many of you are parents, but those are just about the most frightening words a parent can possibly hear. They wonder what will happen to them, and d'Alcacer guesses that Lingard will be heart-broken over Mrs Travers. Parker has delivered a unique canine companion, one that lacks great strength or size but has its own talents: speed and 'a nose'. So, when I learned that his newest novel, The Rescue, involved a dog as a major character, I had such strong expectations that it would be “right up my alley” that I put it at the very top of my mountain of books waiting to be read.
