A single malt from Islay's excellent Bowmore Distillery, independently bottled as part of the Darkness range after 18 years of maturation – including a stint in Moscatel sherry octave casks! The whisky produced at Bowmore has its own individual character, which is largely down to the distillery’s proximity to the coast. The River Laggan journeys many miles through Islay, cutting its course through ferrous rocks, peat bog, moss and grassy mound, ‘til it finds itself at the Western harbour town of Bowmore, Islay’s capital. Their whisky emerges from this time-old and traditional distillation process only once deemed perfect by Bowmore’s skilled, expert distillers, and so with Bowmore whisky, you can be sure that each bottle will be as special as the last. This Islay single malt Scotch whisky was distilled in 1997 and matured for 25 years in an oloroso sherry butt.

Just 284 bottles were filled in 2023, without colouring or chill filtration, at 46% ABV by Douglas Laing for its Provenance range.This limited edition Bowmore single malt whisky was created from a combination of European oak and American oak sherry seasoned casks as well as American oak bourbon casks filled in 1991 and 1992. A careful selection of ex-sherry casks and hogsheads went into this single malt Scotch whisky, which promises generous helpings of sherry-soaked fruit, and dark caramel character.

Originally a distillery exclusive, this impressive Bowmore release celebrates the legacy of David Simson, the founder of the Islay distillery. Another of Islay’s finest exports, Bowmore produces superb scotch whisky from its unique coastal location.

Following purchase in 1837, by William and James Mutter, the distillery was resold in 1892 to the Bowmore Distillery Company Ltd. A beautifully inspiring masterpiece, this unique, handcrafted vessel houses an equally scarce single malt - Black Bowmore 1964. Married from a selection of the distillery's finest bourbon cask matured whisky, it was bottled up at 15 years old, with a release of 3,000 bottles.

Inspired by the past, but truly breathtaking in today's world, the significance of 1964 is paramount. When the folk of Bowmore formed an angry mob to chase the devil out of the church (which is of course round, offering him nowhere to hide), down the road and through the distillery, it was assumed that he must have made his escape in a cask heading to the mainland aboard the Maid of Islay. Taste: Intense flavours of mango, passion fruit and acacia honey interwoven with a powerful combination of coffee and tobacco smoke.
