About this deal

Our resident Northerner likes to tell people that he didn’t see blue sky until he was eighteen, hence why he loves the Cornish coast! Squid Ink is such a powerful ingredient that only a minimal amount is needed both for the distilling and colour or infusion of the gin. Crafted with passion and expertise, this gin combines the artistry of traditional distillation techniques with a touch of maritime magic. Working at the heart of the ever-changing industry across three decades, Paul has been at the forefront of it all, but being like Uncle Albert, he never talks about it.

The decision to set up in Penzance was an obvious one for this surf-loving Durban native who remains the driving force behind our creativity. Whether enjoyed on a balmy summer evening or shared with friends, Dr Squid Gin promises a delightful and unforgettable experience. Squid Gin comes to us from the Pocketful of Stones Distillery in Penzance, which was made using a recipe that features real, no-foolin’ squid ink!Producer’s Story: Pocketful of Stones, the talented team behind Dr Squid Gin, draws inspiration from the rugged beauty of the Cornish coast. The exquisite taste reveals a perfect balance of savoury and citrus elements, culminating in a long, satisfying finish that leaves you longing for another sip. Vanilla was added to compliment the sea buckthorn, which provides a tart and very refreshing finish. and was often flavoured with turpentine (when juniper wasn’t available) to give resinous woody notes and sulfuric acid for a bit of kick. Dr Squid Gin gin adds Squid Ink, which is such a powerful ingredient that only a minimal amount is needed both for the distilling and colour or infusion of the gin.

I lean towards the more savoury distillations for I love a classic dry, dirty martini (so that’s with an olive), and have been taken particularly with Welsh and Scottish gins with seaweed botanicals.

It was this background, and the fact that it was his local, that led Paul to get involved in the early days of the Lukin, and he now sits as the business brain behind Pocketful of Stones. This unique addition is served from a copper flask engraved with the scenery, wildlife, folklore and history that surrounds the distillery. This utterly gorgeous gin is made with real squid ink from a secret recipe and is served from a handmade copper (yes, you read that correctly) flask engraved with the scenery, wildlife, folklore and history that surrounds them down there.
