About this deal

Stephanie and Patrick have a good life together, happily married, with beautiful twin daughters and because this is a Lapena novel you know that things are about to go terribly for them. Lapena has written several standalone psychological thrillers, each with its own unique twists and surprises. Dementia is a life-limiting condition, but it is very difficult to know how long someone with dementia will live for. These include Niall (Patrick's business partner), Nancy (Niall's wife), Hanna (Stephanie and Patrick's neighbor), and Cheryl (mother of Devin).

The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides: This mesmerizing debut novel follows the mysterious case of a renowned artist who stops speaking after being accused of murdering her husband. We learn that Nick was interested in an audio tape that came along with the money, which recorded a conversation between Nick and Jasper (David Wenham/Calum Worthy) where they organise the stunt at the Oslo conference in the hopes that Martin has to resign and Jasper takes over as CEO. At the beginning of the film, Algar invites us to believe in the story we are about to see, telling us: "We are nothing without stories.

Every moment, there’s some massive reveal, some massive betrayal, or some massive truth that she unfolds.

I wouldn't say every single plot point was predictable but I did feel a teeny, tiny bit letdown when I finished the book. Anna’s parents ( Elaine Cassidy and Caolan Byrne) and many of the town’s all-male committee, including the likes of Doctor McBrearty (Toby Jones) and Father Thaddeus (Ciarán Hinds) are desperate for Anna's situation to be either a religious or medical miracle, but as soon as Lib arrives she is certain of trickery. In the closing scenes of The Wonder, we watch them eat around a table with other passengers at sea before the camera pans around, leaving the set and showing the huge studio where the movie is being filmed. This is a reference to the thaumatrope that Will gave Anna early on in the film - the spinning toy that shows an optical illusion of a bird moving in and out of a cage - and is of course symbolic of Anna's freedom. She arrives back into his life, accusing him of murdering his first wife, Lindsey and she is making Stephanie doubt her own husband's character.

So much of her potential has been unlocked that she has started seeing the true purpose of her existence – what this is has not been mentioned but it’s clear that being a companion to humans is not the purpose. We learned in an earlier episode that she was originally meant to throw a dye pack at Martin, which would explode and cover him in red). The plot is moved along by Erica, a woman who Patrick had an affair with at the time of his first wife’s death, that may or may not know more details about this death and Patrick whose arrival in town brings all of this to light. As Andy slowly realises that Nick was responsible for the car accident she got into, she swipes a lantern off of the table and tries to grab Nick's gun, however he shoots her in the arm and a fire begins to engulf the cabin they are currently in. Shari Lapena erupted onto the scene with The Couple Next Door, and with each subsequent book has secured her place as the new queen of domestic suspense, inheriting the mantle from the late Mary Higgins Clark.I think why this book didn't reach the 5 star level for me is nothing really blew my mind with the story. I enjoyed that several of the characters were morally grey - some were good people who made bad choices, while others were just bad people, and then there were a few characters I was rooting for! Stephanie and Patrick are happily married with twins if you don’t count the babies’ heavy colic problem which turns to torturous nightmare with nonstop crying tournament, agitation and restlessness.

Then, as I'm getting towards the end of the book, a thought popped into my head: "You know what would totally cement the insanity? A person in the later stages of dementia may have symptoms that suggest that they are close to death, but can sometimes live with these symptoms for many months.

Both of them suffer from sleep deprivation and their only problem was not adjusting to be new parents.
