Katie is completing her undergraduate degree in writing, literature, and publishing and working towards an MA in publishing at Emerson College. Little Feat bandleader Lowell George was a fan of Fanny and jammed with the group when they were in Los Angeles. After 43 years, Fanny Walked the Earth(as the latest incarnation is known) are back with a 13-song self-titled album. Stay weird and cool in the 100% sustainable cotton Navy T-shirt, catch all of that barbecue sauce you'll be spillin' this summer with the 100% natural cotton Black Apron, and get your groove on with the 12" Slipmat. The album oozes world-class songcraft and musicality enhanced with achingly nuanced harmonies, poignant lyrics, and sinewy solos.

From the left, Jean Millington, Nickey Barclay, Brie Howard-Darling, Alice de Buhr and June Millington comprise the all female rock band Fanny. In 2002, Rhino Records released the limited edition 4-CD box set First Time in a Long Time, which collected Fanny's first four studio albums along with live recordings, outtakes, and promotional items. This is a record that pushes boundaries and genre-hops between Rock, Alterna-pop, Americana and ethereal Folk. A 1971 article in Sounds remarked that the group "seems that they are the support group to everyone these days". After playing through several variations of the band, they attracted the interest of producer Richard Perry who signed them to Reprise Records in 1969 as Fanny. Aside from Howard-Darling's own music projects and bands, she has toured extensively with other successful recording artists, most notably with Carole King, Jimmy Buffett and Robert Palmer.

Finding Fanny: Bobbi Jo Hart's newest documentary is poetic justice for the first women of rock and roll".The latter featured regular Rolling Stones saxophonist Bobby Keys, and was released as a single, reaching number 85 on the Billboard Hot 100. However, I love how more poignant moments like that are balanced out by tracks like Not My Monkey, which has more swagger and shows that amid their more serious topics, Fanny Walked The Earth is not without a sense of humour. Legacy showcases Poco's signature blend of country and rock, with heartfelt lyrics and unforgettable melodies. The band recorded four albums together before June quit the group, leading to the original line-up splitting.

Still, it frustrates the lead guitarist that more female rockers who rose in Fanny’s wake haven’t acknowledged their pivotal role.Otherwise, only the most ardent followers of 1970s rock and pop remember the highs and lows of this pioneering band.

The band’s final album, released in 1974, “ Rock and Roll Survivors ” was produced by Vini Poncia and contained the highest-ranking song in the band’s history: “ Butter Boy (Casablanca). NPR described the band as “the most masterful all-female band of the classic rock era,” and Pitchfork recently labeled June a “rock n’ roll pioneer. The second single, "Butter Boy" was written by Jean about Bowie, and became their biggest hit, reaching number 29 on the Billboard Hot 100 in April 1975. After seeing what the group, now dubbed Fanny, could do in their rehearsal space, the label was “1,000% behind us”, said Millington. This included David Bowie, who spoke passionately about how overlooked the band had been, and about how far ahead of their time they had been.In a touching moment on stage, Jean Millington cries as her son hits the bass, overwhelmed by the emotion on stage.
